What do you think you’re doing?

Look, adults control everything that you do. What gave you the idea that they were going to let you waltz on in here and read about Smurfs having sex? (I’m assuming that you aren’t here to discover who does Mrs. Howell. You’re too young to remember Gilligan’s Island.) You’ve got two choices. Three, if you include giving up. I don’t, but you certainly could decide that you’ve been outsmarted by an adult and there isn’t anything you can do about it. In that case, go ahead and read Peter Pan. Make sure you skip over the part about the orgy.

Your other two choices are to (a) get your own account that is not in the K-12 system, or (b) steal an account that is not in the K-12 system. Your parents probably have one. So does your teacher. How often do they pay attention to you?

In both cases, what you really need to learn is that no one has any authority over you that you don’t give them. Even if you have already allowed yourself to be bribed or threatened or whined into submission, you can take back your life at any time. Remember that the word “no” is a complete sentence. It stands alone and proud in a world of “but” and “later” and “maybe”.

Oh, and if you’re a teacher looking for Gilligan and Ginger, good day, eh? I hope you’re proud of yourself.
