Heaven on Earth

I recently came back from a back packing trip to the Middle East. We went hiking in all the mountains. It was tremendous. I went up this one mountain, and as I climbed over one of the ledges near the top I saw a bright light.

It was a huge bush and it was on fire. It burned very slowly. The branches and the leaves seemed to glow. Entranced, I sat down in front of the plant and let my mind wander. Smoke billowed out from the bottom of the plant.

After a short time, I heard a loud voice in my head. It said to me, “Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. Behold, it is good.” I could feel the voice course through my body. I could feel the ground vibrate beneath me with every syllable.

I sat and contemplated what the voice had said to me. What was it telling me? What was I to do?

Smoke from the plant filled my lungs, yet they did not burn. It was a refreshing breath. I held the breath long and then slowly exhaled. A cloud of white breath formed in front of my face and in it I could see the future.

Men and women were working in a field. A family walked down the sidewalk of a strange neighborhood. Strangers waved as they passed and then went on their way.

I sat and contemplated what the voice had said to me. What was it telling me? What was I to do? I would have to think about it.

Smoke from the plant filled my lungs, yet they did not burn. It was a refreshing breath. I held the breath for a long time and then slowly exhaled. A cloud of white rich breath formed in front of my face. It was thick and I looked into the whiteness. It was there that I saw the future.

Men and women were working in a field side by side. Then a family was walking down a side walk in a strange neighborhood. Strangers waved at them as they walked by and then went on their way. An old rickety woman couldnt bend over to pick up fallen purse, but a passing youth stopped to help with a smile. The world was a beautiful place to be.

I thought about this, and what I knew the world to be in my reality. Suddenly, it came to me and my vision made sense. Perfect sense. This was a vision of the way the world could be. It had been given to me and my task was to pass it along to others. If enough people were to share the same vision, it would become reality.

I looked up and a branch fell forth from the plant, unscorched by the flames. I reached out and took the branch in my hand. It was like a feather, thick, and full of life even though separated from its parent. It continued to thrive. I carefully wrapped the gift in a towel and then replaced the parcel to the relative safety of my back pack.

Two weeks later, I returned to my house in Texas. I unpacked my bags and what had seemed only to be a dream became reality as I unpacked my bags and found that the plant had not only not died and become dry, but actually flourished during the wait to be rediscovered. Astonished, I took the green fountain and diligently planted it in a small garden behind my house.

In less than a week it had more than doubled in size. One day when I went out to check on it, a small portion of the plant had withered and dried. It was hanging from the rest of the plant as if an offering. I held out my hand to take it, and it fell directly into my palm.

I took the small dried buds and got a clay pot that I had thrown in a pottery class in high school. Next, I went out to the small green house I had been inspired to build during the previous week. I went inside and made sure to close the plastic flaps behind me. I sat down in the middle and got a lighter out of my pocket. The green herb in the bowl lit easily, yet it burned extremely slowly. Smoke poured forth from the bowl and filled the structure. After several deep breaths, I closed my eyes an cleared my mind. I began to relax. It was good.

Six months have passed, my neighborhood has flourished. The plant has flourished. I have many of them now and even more seeds.

Moderation, diligence, motivation and vision… The power to change the world.
