[1] What is the Spider-Man Expatriates Mission? To do all that we can to restore Peter Parker to his rightful position as the real Spider-Man. [2] What is the method for accomplishing the Mission? Boycotting all Spider-Man Comic Books that advance the theory that Ben Reilly is the real Spider-Man and Peter Parker is the clone. Boycotting the books sends a clear and concise message that we dissapprove and puts financial pressure on Marvel to change. [3] More specifically, What books are the Expatriates boycotting? Amazing [Scarlet] Spider-Man Specatcular [Scarlet] Spider-Man Web of [Scarlet] Spider-Man [Scarlet] Spider-Man Sensational Spider-Man [soon to be released] Unlimited [Scarlet] Spider-Man The rule of thumb is that if occurs in the time period after Spectacular Spider-Man #226 then it is boycotted. [4] What about Spider-Man 2099? Well since 2099 occurs in the future with a different Spider-Man all together who isn't in anyway really related to Peter Parker or the clone saga, it is not included in the boycott. [5] What about Untold Tales of Spider-Man and Spider-Man versus Spider-Man 2099? Since UTOSM occurs before the clone storyline even was conceived it is not included in the boycott. Similarily, since Spider-Man versus Spider-Man 2099 treats Peter Parker as the real Spider-Man and doesn't deal with Ben Reilly at all, it is not boycotted. [6] What is the position of the Expatriates on the future of Ben Reilly? As long as Ben Reilly is considered the clone and Peter Parker continues his adventures in the regular titles, then we have no position on the future of Ben Reilly, good or bad. [7] How long have the Expatriates existed? Since I finished reading Spectacular Spider-Man #228. [8] What do I do if I want to join? There are two simple and easy steps. 1.) Cancel your Spider-Man Comic Book subscriptions that are included on the boycott list, or vow not to buy the books on the list if you don't have regular subscriptions at comic shops. If you have a subscription with Marvel that will run out in a couple of months, than that is fine as long as you vow not to renew your subscriptions with Marvel. The goal is not to funnel any money towards books which promote the idea that Ben Reilly is the real Spider-Man. 2.) Email me at [r c k] at [acpub.duke.edu] [9] What will I get if I join? There is a monthly mailing list that I maintain of all of the Expatriates that wish to recieve it. Not all members receive the list, but most do. Every month I will send you a summary of how the cause is going, as well as what the previews are for the coming months and any inside information I may have on the clone saga. Joining the List is not obligatory, just specify in your message if you wish to be counted an Expatriate but not get the montly mailings. not get the monthly mailings. However, I do keep a master list in order to keep track of the current number of members. [10] Is there any additional obligation on my part? No, not really. Just if you hear word of some ground breaking information that hasn't really been mentioned on the newsgroup, or that somebody in the Expatriates hasn't said something about, then mail me and I will pass the info on. In addition, if you find people who sympathize with our cause, send them our way. HOWEVER! If you tell me you are an Expatriate, please maintain the boycott. This is entirely based on the trust system here. I won't come knocking on your door demanding to see all of the comic books that you have bought in the last month, but it would be really nice if we stuck to our guns and maintained this thing. [11] What will happen when Peter Parker returns as the real Spider-Man? Sooner or later, I think this is bound to happen. In which case, the Expatriates will be disbanded. However, I will keep the list on file to rally the troops if Marvel ever tries something this boneheaded again.
