Date: Sun, 19 Nov 95 20:03:11 GMT Here's an update on the Oklahoma comic shop bust, quoted from a compuserve post from Susan Alston of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Planet Comics owners attended their pre-trial hearing on November 7,1995, which was delayed about an hour because of a bomb scare at the court house, and were informed that there would be no plea bargaining and that their trial date is set for January 26,1995 at 9 AM. The District Attorney's office indicated that they would require a half day to present their case against the owners of Planet Comics and would call three witnesses. The defense attornies for Planet Comics indicated that they would need a full day to present their defense. Planet Comics owners said 'the District Attorney's office was surprised to see the extent of the defense that they had in court for the pre trial hearing.' Also, it was noted that a representative from a Right Wing religious group was at the hearing. The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is working with the attornies to find suitable expert witnesses to defend the books in question: Verotika #4, Mighty Morphing Rump Rangers, Screamers #2, Sex Wad #2, Devil's Angel, Vipor Series Sketch Book, Nefarismo #5, Beatrix Dominatrix #2, . Lieber here again-- And if this isn't enough, A Florida Police Detective has requested that a comic shop remove a number of items from their shelves, among these, Neil Gaiman's "Death: The High Cost of Living" trade paper-back, presumably because of the safe sex strip in the back. The CBLDF's address is PO Box 693 Northhampton, MA 01061 Let's get some checks in the mail, folks. Steve Lieber --
