Please forgive the cross post, but I thought this would be of interest to people in each of these newsgroups. I didn't want people to keep stumbling on it in different newsgroups, and re-opening it, thinking it was something new. If you must flame about this, please send it to my [l--ga--y] at [accent.net] email address, so as not to waste space on the newsgroups. Again, do not POST follow ups. Email them. ...And now... THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT: All of us here at LEGACY are really excited about this. Since I started posting in the rac groups, I have received dozens of letters asking if LEGACY was looking for writers, or artists. Well, now we are. This is a unique opportunity for anyone who's ever wanted to break into comics. Beginning with issue #2 of the COLD EDEN regular series we will be CONTRACTING OUT up to three pages of work to aspiring comic creators. * If you are selected, you will be offered a contract, and paid a standard professional page rate. (Better than I made on my first professional work, actually. Hhhmm. -Adam) * LEGACY will only be purchasing the world-wide PUBLICATION rights to the material submitted. * You will KEEP the ownership of your original characters, and story ideas. * Original artwork will be returned after printing. This is not a contest. All submissions will be judged solely based on merit. You may apply as many times as you like. The great thing about this, as I see it, is that this is actual PROFESSIONAL work that you can add to your resume, and people will get to see your work in a professional venue. We are accepting submissions of: * Short stories, 1000 to 2000 words. * Single page 'Pin-ups' in Black and White. * Illustrated stories (comics) up to 3 pages in length. * Comic Strips. Comic strips will be purchased on a per strip basis (Obviously) All artwork should be Black and White, and in a 6 5/8 x 10 3/16 aspect ratio, because it has to fit on a comic page. Text-only stories may be sent as email. It is our goal to create an anthology of new talent in each issue of COLD EDEN. When you send us your submission, include your Name, Address (email too), and Phone Number (business hours #). Also be sure to include some information about yourself, a short resume and bio. We will include this info in an inset panel with each piece we publish, along with an email addr. or phone #, if you wish. Again, you may submit as many times as you like, but please, if you are submitting more than one thing, submit them seperately, to avoid confusion. We're not that bright you see, so we might say "Well, it was going along really well, but then it just went off on a tangent. It's like it turned into a completely different story." It could happen. Better safe than sorry and all that. ... oh, and if you send a photo, I'll draw a caricature, making fun of you just like we do to each other! How cool is that. CONDITIONS OF SUBMISSION: * Personal friends of me, or Bryn & Sean will be ignored. (They're used to it.) * Do not use copyrighted characters (Captain Kirk, Batman, etc.) * Do not send original art to us until we ask you for it. * Do not FAX anything to us. (Pleeassse! Artwork and stories both look terrible when they're faxed, and they tie up the phone lines.) * Do not send artwork as attached documents with email. (Have you ever tried getting your email when there's two dozen binary images in it? Tedious. Pack a lunch. ...And bring a good book.) * With conventions, and our publishing deadlines, we don't have the time necessary to follow-up every invitation to a web-site. Sorry, it may be medieval, but it's best to just stick to sending us plain old B&W photocopies through snail-mail. Stories may be sent as email, but everything else should be sent to us using regular post. For even more info, check out the Feb./March issue of 'Indy' magazine, or a recent issue of Cold Eden (under LEGACY in your Previews catalogue, or ask your retailer.) There should also be press releases in some of the comic fan mags in the near future, but they'll pretty much say what I've just told you. Adam Swan.
