Date: Wed, 1 Feb 95 10:26:16 -0500 You certainly can make a living writing comics, but you have to be good, fast and reliable. To my mind, that requires professional training, some dedication and willingness to be part of a creative team. I recommend that you get formal writing training, such as a journalism, creative writing or screen-writing degree (and start using capital letters). I have an undergraduate degree in journalism and an M.A. in creative writing and have taken screen-writing classes. All have served me well. Your degreee of countro over comic art depends upon your relationship with the publisher and the artist. In my scripts, I include every detail that I think is important to the story and any bot of my vision of how I see the art. Often, the artist's vision is better and I appreciate that. Breaking in is damn difficult and worse now than ever due to the lousy market conditions. The best advice I have is to team up with an artist and do an ashcan for show and tell to editors.
