Opening volleys:
Walt Simonson and Gary Gianni have joined the Legend consortium.
Archie Comics are exclusive to Diamond.
Universal Cartoon Studios are developing "Akiko on the Planet Smoo"
for TV in 1997.

The Cyberforce cartoon has been pushed back to 1997, but "preview
edition" CF toys will be sold exclusively in comic shops this summer.

Next season's Kids'WB! schedule: Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries, an
as-yet-untitled Damon Wayans cartoon, Animaniacs!, Pinky and the Brain,
Superman, Road Rovers, Freakazoid!, and Earthworm Jim. Superman, inci-
dentally, premieres as a prime-time 90-minute special in late summer.

Fantagraphics has announced several new projects by the Hernandez bros.
All feature L&R characters. Jaime is preparing a 3 issue mini, Whoa
Nellie!, starring the lady wrestlers (including Xochitl & Gina). A
Penny Century ongoing title is also on the way. Gilbert's comic is
called New Love, and will be a collection of short stories with one
continuing serial.

Armed & Dangerous v2 #1 of 4 (Hall). The mob war rages on, and Uncle
Charly's not quite dead yet.

Magic:the Gathering--Alliances (Holcomb & D. Wheatley). One shot
telling the story of the new MtG expansion.

ARTBABE:

Xeric grant recipient, Action Girl contributor, and my pal, Jessica Abel,
goes nationwide. Recommended to fans of Adrian Tomine especially.

CALIBER:
========
Calibrations #1 (Various). A new $0.99 anthology starts with a bang with
stories by Warren Ellis, Jill Thompson, Ken Meyer, and others.

Construct #1 (P. Jenkins & L. Duranona). Life on a planet of robots. Yes,
Paul Jenkins from Hellblazer. Yes, Duranona from Race of Scorpions.

Lethargic Lad #1 (Hyland). Ha ha, he's back in the Diamond catalog!

Star Wars: Battle of the Bounty Hunters (Windham & Moeller). Hardcover
pop-up comic!

Nexus: Executioner's Song #1 of 4 (Baron & Rude). "Now he must face a
monster of his own creation--a girl whose father fell before Nexus's
great power." She's baaaaaaack.

Batman/Grendel II #1 of 2 (Matt Wagner). Did ye know that the "Devil's
Quest" backups in Grendel were all leading up to this? Grendel-Prime
arrives in present-day Gotham. Hijinks ensue.

Star Slammers Special (W. Simonson). Concludes the Bravura minseries.

Blade of the Immortal #1 (H. Samura). To end his curse of eternal life,
a ronin warrior must slay 1000 evil men.

Hellboy: Wake the Devil #1 of 5 (Mignola).The Bureau takes on vampires
and nazis. Backup strip is Gary Gianni's MonsterMen.

Madman Yo-Yo made by Duncan, Sin City lighter made by Zippo.
