Newsgroups: talk.politics.guns From: [d--b] at [igor.tamri.com] (Don Baldwin) Subject: Response from Colt regarding CNN interview Date: Tue, 12 Oct 93 15:13:12 GMT I wrote a letter to Colt, after the CNN interview where they supposedly supported the adoption of the Brady Bill. Here is their response. don From: R.C. Whitaker, Chairman, President and CEO, Colt Manufacturing Compay, Inc. Dear Mr. Baldwin, Thank you for your inquiry regarding the CNN telecast. Unfortunately, the news show used 20 seconds of a 65 minute interview - AND SPLICED IT TO SUPPORT THEIR OPINION, NOT COLT'S. Let me set the record straight: Colt does not support laws restricting gun ownership and gun purchases. Colt IS NOT against the NRA. However, Colt is pragmatic enough to recognize that bills will be discussed in various State Houses aroiund the country, as well as the US Capitol. Our suggestion is to open a dialogue between the gun manufacturers, distributors, dealers, owners, and the anti-gun groups. Only that dialogue will create understanding -- and hopefully, better CRIMINAL LAWS. CNN suggested that such an action would upset people -- it will! However, it is the first step toward stopping the lunacy of "feel good" anti-gun legislation. I hope you now understand the full context of our comments. Thank you for taking time to get the facts. Yours truly, R.C. Whitaker
