From: [p--t--o] at [cs.umd.edu] (Jim Purtilo) Newsgroups: info.firearms.politics Subject: commentary on Post article Date: 10 Oct 93 12:06:03 GMT Just a quick reaction to the previous post (that I sent without any commentary). -- The ATF officials are reported as saying the don't have exact figures, yet they are able to tell that MD surpassed VA in number of guns recovered at crime scene in DC. Let's get real. -- If their claim is true, then it is too bad that they LIED to the citizens of VA about their state being the big gunrunning capital, while they were going through the legislative season. -- So, this supposed gunrunning can occur even with one of the stronger set of handgun restrictions in the country? We have a background check, waiting period (of up to several months), and all multiple-firearm transfers are flagged on a separate set of paperwork to the government. -- The exact figures are NOT at all reported. This could be four handguns traced, and in percentages sound terribly big. This article smacks of something initiated by Gov. Schaefer's office, rather than ATF or the Washington . Jim
