Date: Fri, 6 May 1994 15:59:00 GMT It's interesting to note that on ABC's "NIGHTLINE" program where they had on former Rep. Tom Downey, Rep. Martinez (CA) and some commentator along with Ted Koppel there was not a single mention of the Second Amendment "Right to Keep and Bear Arms." If you look at the recent series of NRA ads in USA Today, the arguments presented concern themselves with either crime or technical non-differences between military-style guns and conventional so-called "Sporting Guns." NRA clearly is fighting the so-called "Assault Weapon" issue on the anti-gunners' agenda. Jews For the Preservation of Firearms Ownership (JPFO) fights for the Second Amendment RKBA for what the Founding Fathers intended it to be EXPLICITLY: for the preservation of human rights in a "Free State." JPFO ran advertisements in Hawaii which featured Adolf Hitler saluting with the caption: "ALL IN FAVOR OF GUN CONTROL RAISE YOUR RIGHT HAND" and another that featured an AR-15 in a life preserver. This really riled up the anti-gun leaders to go into their standard whining mode. They were however successful in blocking a series of bills intent on the "registration of all firearms and a virtual ban on handgun sales" (Hawaii is Democrat controled.). They did this by raising approximately $7,700 from the State's 100 or so JPFO members. JPFO can do only so much because of their limited financial resources; their dues paying membership is only 3,000! That's an average of ONLY 60 per state!!! I believe that with a much enlarged membership with the demographics present on talk.politics.guns ($20 membership fee), that JPFO could become an intense thorn in the side of Schumer & Friends in the Washington, DC area come time for the final vote on the Schumer-Feinstein Semi-Auto ban. Remember, JPFO can do things NRA cannot do due to "political considerations."
