A woman from New England was stopped in New Orleans last year for a minor traffic infraction in a rental car on Canal Street. When the policeman discovered she did not have her driver license with her--she had left it in her hotel room--he arrested her. She went to central lockup in New Orleans and stayed for nearly 12 hours. During her tenure there she was frisked, strip-searched, and all her personal items were taken away and she was issued prison garb. SOP for New Orleans finest. Anyone without a drivers license is immediately arrested. They never apologized. The woman was in the travel industry. She held a scathing press conference swearing to never book anyone else going to New Orleans. It was pretty funny. The police still never apologized. In a place that had 389 murders last year you would think jail space would be at a premium. --------------------------------------------------- -joe -- "When personal freedom's being abused, you have to move to limit it." - U.S. President Bill Clinton, 1994
