The Treasury Department IG's Report on the "Good Ol' Boys Roundup" is hitting the street this week! Take a gander at this quote from this first preview from the Washington Post ... TREASURY DEPARTMENT PROPOSES GUIDELINES FOR OFF-DUTY AGENTS By Pierre Thomas The Washington Post 04/03/96 (from the Manchester NH Union Leader "... Treasury's Inspector General found that about 120 current Treasury agents, about half from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, had attended the annual picnic held on the banks of the Ocoee River. The IG did not recommend that any officers be criminally charged and found no evidence that Treasury agents engaged in overt acts of racism, but a small number could face disciplinary review (WINK, WINK), sources familiar with the probe said ..." One hundred and twenty current agents, 1-2-0, not four, not a car load, not a bus load, one hundred and twenty *current* Treasury agents attended a picnic where there was a prominent "n----r checkpoint" which could be seen by every attendee. Racism? Bigotry? You betcha. A violation of a federal civil rights statute? Probably! But Treasury Secretary Bob Rubin, a big fan of Aesop's Fables when he was a kid, has pronounced "OPERATION FOX LOOKS INTO MIRROR" a great success. Rubin was quoted as saying, "Please tell the American people that the fox has inspected all of his brothers stalking around the public hen house, that all is well, thank you very much, and that all hens are perfectly safe." All nobanners should make an effort to obtain copies of both the Justice Department's and Treasury Department's reports on the "Round Up". If 120 *current* Treasury agents were present at the "Round Up", yucking it up in the vicinity of a "n----r checkpoint" sign, there's a bigger problem under Rubin's roof than even Waco revealed. And the appearance of another "whitewash" seems to lead one to conclude that the cancer remains! Has BATF, in fact, changed at all? I really wonder. I really do. Rubin and Magaw have some serious explaining to do to the American people. They must be held accountable for inexcusable conduct on the part of over 100 of their badge-toting, gun-toting "not so special any more" agents. No, not so special at all. When will "integrity" again be the watchword for federal agents? I remember when, as a kid, I looked upon all federal agents as men who commanded respect and admiration. How times change. In the land of Queek Draw Magaw and Bob-A-Louie Freeh. Leadership starts right at the top. (Enough said.) Christopher C. Ferris Litchfield NH [ferris c c] at [mainstream.net] P.S. I wonder if Magaw's Yee-Hawers had checkpoints at the "Round Up" for their black fully automatic SMGs which I am sure they left unattended in their M/Vs while they were tossing down cans of brew? Yeah, booze and guns, what a "great" mix! Tanya, the NRA should offer free Eddie Eagle courses for all "Round Up" attendees who are still serving, and they should make this offer in a public way, letting the American public know that drunk federal agents had immediate access to guns. If Reno and Rubin are horribly embarrassed, so what? I say, "Just do it!" Or at least consider doing it.
