Newsgroups: talk.politics.guns From: [k--n--d] at [a.cs.okstate.edu] (Douglas W. Kennedy) Subject: Some points on Justice Dept. show Date: Thu, 14 Oct 93 05:20:44 GMT Some interesting points from the Justice Dept. press session to release their whitewash... er.. report: 1) They claimed the dispersing gas used with the CS powder was Carbon Monoxide and "something else". This is no joke, this is really what they said. Yes, I have it on tape. 2) They have given the Linda Thompson video to the University of Maryland (?) for review. They could neither confirm or deny the flame-throwing tank allegation. A spokesman said that he did not know either way what the apparent flame from the tank was. (He did seem to agree that it did look something like a flame, but tried to explain it away.) 3) Janet Reno said that ongoing child abuse in the compound compelled her to go forward with the tear gas assault. A reporter then asked why their was no mention of child abuse in the report. She then said that "someone" had told her this, but that the "someone" was in error and there was *no direct evidence of child abuse during the standoff* (!) other than the allegations (that I had thought investigated by the Texas state welfare folks and dismissed!) from the divorce and custody proceedings *before* the raid. 4) Jolly Janet was then asked who that "someone" was that gave her the false information. She fumbled around for a while, and then said she didn't remember. 5) An FBI spokesman said of the tank assault: A tank drove *through* the building, clear to the tower near the center of the complex. The tank uncovered the "underground bunker" that was located under the tower. The agents in the tank said they saw several children in the underground bunker. The tank them backed up outside the house, and waited for the children to come out. (surprise, they didn't. If a tank came smashing through your house, would you run out through the unstable wreckage of your home to greet it? I think not.) The spokesman said these children were later found burned up in the bunker. This last point brings up a question. I distinctly remember the ATF claiming that there was fresh, cool air inside the underground bunker and that anyone down there would have survived the fire. What gives? Perhaps another BATF lie (gasp!) ?? Also, pt. #2 means the flame throwing tank issue hasn't been resolved yet. (goody, we can flame away for a few more weeks...) Oh yeah, the FBI said that most of their experts were pretty sure that Carbon Monoxide is not flammable. Doug K.
