Hughes" <[w--g--s] at [lonestar.utsa.edu]> Subject: Branch Davidian Trial Update - Thursday, 17 Feb 94 Branch Davidian Trial Update - Thursday, 17 Feb 94 [summary] Page 1B Headline - BRANCH DAVIDIAN JURORS HEAR RECORDING OF FRANTIC 911 CALL Subhead - Sect member reported attack as gunfire sounded in background [The first part of the article is a recounting of the 911 call made by Wayne Martin during the raid. We have all seen transcripts of this call, or heard the tape on news shows like "Nightline". I'm going to save some bandwidth and leave this as read.] Most of the rest of Wednesday's testimony concerned the missing front door of the compound. The steel-core, metal door has disap- peared, and state and federal officials have testified that they do not know what happened to it. However, an attorney who visited the compound during the siege testified that he saw many holes caused by shots from outside, but no holes caused by shots from inside the compound. Jack Zimmerman, who was the attorney for Steve Schneider, said he saw the door on both of his visits to the compound during the siege. Zimmerman also said that he saw bullet holes in the walls and ceiling of what ATF agents thought was Koresh's bedroom. A Waco cemetery groundskeeper and a machine shop owner from Axtell both testified that they saw Koresh outside of the compound on three occasions in the seven weeks prior to the raid. The ground- skeeper said he saw Koresh as late as the Wednesday preceding the Sunday, 28 Feb. raid. ========================= ADMINISTRIVIA ========================= COMMENTS Officials do not know what happened to a critical piece of physical evidence? Yeah, right. And the attention paid to Koresh's bedroom would seen to indicate a deliberate attempt to kill the leader of a non-standard religious group. In my opinion, this give credence to claims that this was an officially-sanctioned assassination at- tempt.
