From: [n--bo--y] at [REPLAY.COM] (Anonymous) Newsgroups: alt.drugs.chemistry Subject: HCl question Date: 5 Mar 1996 01:21:26 +0100 One method of producing HCl is as follows... AC power | switch | free -> aquarium -> _ _ -> hose -> 1'lngth glass tubing air pump | | v ^ _|_|_ two holed rubber -> \ / stopper \ / BOTTLE G LA S S B O T T L E G L A S S B O T T L E <- H2SO4 over rock salt G L A S S B O T T L E G L A S S B O T T L E G L A S S This definitely produces HCl in eye watering volumes and I'm guessing it has something to dowith oxidation, since it does not generate gas unless free air is introduced into the reaction. My question is this: does it produce dry HCL does it produce HCl which is clean enough to precipitate something like a drug salt from an organic/solvent soln. (not sure if that's worded correctly) if either is NO, can anyone suggest a modification or variation on this method ? head thank a you time [nobody] at [home]
