Date: 29 Jan 1995 22:04:40 GMT MY PSYCHOLOGY BOOK TELLS THE TRUTH ABOUT MARIJUANA! "Psychology Applied to Modern Life: Adjustment in the 90s," by Wayne Weiten and Margaret A. Lloyd. (Forth edition, 1994) THE RISKS OF MARIJUANA: The handful of studies linking marijuana to brain damage have been shown to be methodologically unsound. Marijuana affects brain wave activity, but there is no clear evidence that these changes are permanent or pathological. Does mariuana cause chromosome breaksage? Findings on this issue are inconsistent, but Choen concludes that marijuana does not appear to increase chromosomal breakage. High doses of THC have been shown to cause birth defects in animals. There is no evidence it does so in humans, but the results of the animal studies are cause for concern, and pregnant woman should avoid using marijuana. Cannabis may suppress the body's natural immune response slightly. However, infections disease are no more common among marijuana smokers than among abstiners, so this effect apparently is too small to have any practical importance. Cannabis does appear to have endocrine and reproductive effects that merit further investigation. Marijuana appears to produce a small, reversible decline in sperm count among male smokers and may have temporary effects on hormone levels. The popular media have frequently implied thaat marijuana therefore makes men sterile and impotent. In reality, there is no evidencethat marimuana produces any lasting effects on male smokers' fertility or sexual functioning. It is also not physically addicting. -- eojwfjojfwejfew er5gty ergrefwef dsfsd dafsdayodu sss fs fusfe faerffa kjdkfstgregre ghretyghertgerg er g da dsjdfjsdkfjdskfjddddddskdwergry gt45yh 56u 567 i fdsssssssss ioef ueqwj3r9q290-q2iqr4t
