Steiner) Date: 7 Sep 93 23:22:36 EST this last weekend i purchased a book by Peter McWilliams (Life 101) called _Ain't Nobody's Business If You Do_. it's a 900 page tome on the subject of consensual crimes. don't be scared by the size. with a pertinent quote and McWilliam's hilarious asides on every page, _Ain't Nobody's Business_ is an easy read. there's a lot of information here that should be useful to anyone wanting to learn about the history and effects of laws against any number of consensual ("victimless") crimes. the book covers everything from drug use, alternate religions and political beliefs, homosexuality, polygamy, prostitution and one i'm personally guilty of, cohabitation. i know a lot of people will immediately dismiss McWilliams as a loony simply because he wants to legalize consensual crimes. this doesn't mean he doesn't do his research. for example, McWilliams lays most of the responsibilty for the illegality of consensual crimes at the feet of religion. he doesn't have anything good to say for the likes of Falwell and Robertson. _however_, this did not prompt him to sink into the usual anti- Christian diatribes i've often seen on the net. instead, he did some extensive research into the Bible. McWilliams devotes an entire section of the book to the results of that research and his conclusions are almost exactly the same as those of such great Christian theologians as C.S. Lewis, Francis Schaeffer, and Malcom Muggeridge. (that while Christ may not have approved of the things that are now consensual crimes, he certainly wouldn't have "corrected" the problem with persecution.) as a Christian who's read the Bible through (something McWilliams rightly points out that many Christians _haven't_) as well as the aforementioned authors, the fact that McWilliams did his homework on something i know about makes the rest of _ANBIYD_ much more credible. i highly recommend this book if you're interested in the subject of civil liberties. even if you don't agree that consensual crimes should be legalized you'll probably find yourself laughing at the contents. the quotes alone are almost reason enough to buy it. jason -- would you could you should you cross thru if i could wipe my eyes a blinding compromise another pinky shave enlightens the brow now cow to die another day if you prefer outside be blessed sir ostracize better bastard now forgotten well instead of favored son of hell in hopes to open eyes - scaterd few, U `,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,`,` [s--i--r] at [jupiter.cse.utoledo.edu] `,`,`,`
