NEWS RELEASE : THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 1995 

Telostic Corporation is pleased to announce the immediate availability of
_Shakhan_, its NEW fantasy role-playing game.  _Shakhan_ is a fantasy
role-playing game along the same lines as the famous TSR _Dungeons and
Dragons_ (R) system, except that it has little in common with the
assumptions and historical baggage of Dungeons and Dragons (R). (For
example, there are no "elves", "dwarves"  or "hobbits" on the imaginary
world of Telostic.)

_Shakhan_ is played in the conventional FRP manner with a "live" referee,
written notes and rules and "live" players in the former's direct
proximity. The players use their imaginations, and the supplementary
material and decisions provided by the referee, to act out the roles of
characters on the imaginary world of Telostic, starting with a weak alter
ego and slowly building him, her or it up to a position of power, fame and
fortune. 

The game is set on the planet Telostic, a world in which a once-mighty
civilization has degenerated over thousands of years to a level roughly
equivalent to that of Earth's early Middle Ages. It is an environment much
different from those with which most FRP devotees are familiar... to find
out why, you'll have to play it!

_Shakhan_ is available for FREE downloading from File Area #1 of "The
Planet Telostic" BBS (905-791-6852) under the following file names:

* This file has been uploaded in .UUE format to another message of several
Usenet news groups and may be downloaded and perused at your leisure as a
"sample". 

All of these files are in Microsoft Word for Windows 2.0b word processing
format; you can read them with version 2.0b or later of Word for Windows,
or version 5.0 or later of Word for the Mac. (We have not tried to view
them with any of the versions of WordPerfect for Windows, but in view of
the substantial differences in formatting codes between these two word
processors, don't be surprised if it comes out looking strange.)

Unfortunately, these documents are far too heavily formatted to try to
convert them into ASCII, so if you can't read WinWord format you're kind
of out of luck.  Note that these files are compressed in the .ZIP archive
format, so you'll need PKUNZIP.EXE (which you can get on our BBS) or a
compatible de-archiver to view them. Also note that you should decompress
each file into a different subdirectory to avoid over-writing the
CONTENTS.TXT file that comes with each. 

If you want the published version of _Shakhan_, which comes with a colour
map of the Rocto-Ardae Empire in which the game is set, you can order it
through Telostic Corporation.  The price in Canadian dollars is: 

$30.00 + $4.50 GST/PST + $5.00 shipping and handling = $ 39.50

The price (as of today) in U.S. dollars is: 

$23.00 + $1.85 PST + $3.00 shipping and handling = $27.85
