Newsgroups: rec.games.frp.misc From: [d--ac--n] at [iat.holonet.net] (Andrew Philip Fabbro) Subject: Re: Anyone Still Playing AFTERMATH? Date: Thu, 8 Apr 1993 08:01:34 GMT Thanks for all the replies to my humble solicitation. I've been playing Aftermath in a group that originally began when the game first came out 10+ years ago. In fact, most of the original members of those first campaigns still meet every month in Ann Arbor, Michigan for our current campaign, which is about a year old. Many of our player group have also run smaller, concurrent campaigns. The game system is overwhelmed with finite detail, to be sure. We've modified the combat system by group consensus (and GM insistance!), particularly with regard to the action phases. We simply calculate Base Action Phase and Maximum Number of Actions, and then intersperse a character's action phases equally between 1 and the Base Action Phase, always with a minimum distance of the Phases Consumed in Action. Put in technical terms it's much more complicated than it actually is to figure out (and you only have to figure it out once, during character creation!) I have been in contact with Paul Hume, through GEnie. He's now with FASA. Both he and Charette are still owed royalties by the now-defunct FGU. FGU's copyright holders are presently negotiating with Dinosaur Games, who wants to republish the game in a more streamlined form (and with better cover art!!). The fabled "Aftermath technology book" does in fact exist. Hume was working on it when FGU started going "flaky" and never finished the manuscript. Dinosaur Games has published a finished, heavily edited and expanded form of this as their own Aftermath tech book. They also are reselling the rules, and the modules and other errata are available at many hobby shops that deal in used games. I don't have the Dinosaur Games address handy at the moment, but can readily supply it. I'd be interested in comparing notes with others regarding Aftermath campaigns, expansions, etc. Our group's GM and ultimate Aftermath devotee is CJ Richmond, who can be reached e-mail at [cj richmond] at [um.cc.umich.edu.] He does not have USENET at present, though I am forwarding this thread to him. If anyone's interesting, I'd love to have an open-ended Aftermath dialogue, either here or via e-mail group.
