He's in decent shape. Took a couple rounds in the gut and got caught in the blast of a grenade explosion. One of the staff Bears worked him over and now he's mostly just a little sore and tired. He should be out tomorrow morning. He was kinda groggy, so I didn't pump him for too many details, but this is what he was able to tell me about the attack. /* Begin audio dump: Norm: I initiated last week and we were going through the formal recognition ceremony. There were about twenty Eagles in the room, most good friends of my dad; higher-ups in the city government; other corp types. Suddenly the doors exploded outwards and a dozen or so men dressed in black and carrying light machine-guns filed in. Me: What races? Human? Norm: Uh, they were all human sized, so they could also have been elven. No trolls; no orks. Me: Any insignias or uniform identifications? Anything special about their weapons? Norm: Nope. They were covered head to toe in black. Couldn't see their faces or their hands. Their weapons were unremarkable. Me: Ok, what happened then? Norm: Let's see. As I said, ten or twelve filed in to the room. They leveled their guns towards the crowd and nobody really moved. We were all a little stunned I guess. Then one of them said "Joseph Yoshida is coming with us." Well Danny, you know, my dad's bodyguard, pulled an a smartgun out of his jacket and then stepped in front of dad saying "I don't think so." Well, there was a slight pause and then then the head guy says "Fire!" and they filled Danny full of lead. He musta taken at least 50 rounds. Never had a chance to get a shot off. Anyways, the head guy then goes "Who's next?" Nobody moved. Then two of them walked up towards dad and picked him up and started backing out. Me: They picked him up? Musta been pretty strong. Norm: I know. In any case. One of the shamans there starts humming a song. A magical song. I picked up on it and so did a couple of the others. We all worked together to weave together a good sized blast of magic and droped it ground zero on the invaders, while at the same time my father saw what we were doing and put a shield around himself. We dropped this huge mana-bomb and it had NO EFFECT! I mean nothing! Nada! Zip! Me: What? That can't be? Norm: I know. All it did was piss them off because they turned on us and started spraying the whole room with bullets. I got nailed in the gut and then somebody tossed a grenade in and that was the last I remember. Next thing I know I wake up here. Me: Any idea who this might have been? Norm: Dad has enemies. I don't know a single corp-type that doesn't. But none that would turn to something as public as a kidnappping. If someone wanted dad out of the way, they'd poison him or he'd have an "accident". Kidnapping is pretty stupid. Me: What about blackmailing Yoshida Tech or forcing your dad to change policies on something? Norm: Ransom? I can hardly imagine it being worth it. You might be able to get a fair amount of money, but this was the work of very seasoned and precision military-style kidnappers. Hardly something you use for simply money. And Yoshida Tech has very little that it is doing that has any kind of political implications. Me: What about Tirandor? Norm: Heh, I was wondering when you would ask that. Tirandor, as much as we distrust him, is a businessman. That means that he is usually predictable in why he is doing something. Profit. There would be no profit in the long-run for kidnapping my father. The publicity is to high for the dragon to deal with. No, this was someone else. Someone who is REALLY pissed. Not because of a few billion lost in the game of business, but because of some personal vandetta. Me: Shit. I don't like the sound of that. Anything else? Norm: Just one other thing, and this is going to sound really stupid. Me: Shoot. Norm: These kidnappers. Uh . . . they wern't . . . uh . . . alive. Me: What? What do you mean? Norm: Ok. All living things on this planet give off a form of astral radiation. With practice, a mage can learn to sense this radiation. These kidnappers gave off NONE of that radiation. It was like they wern't even there astrally. Me: You mean like someone who is really chromed. Norm: No, somone who is heavily chromed has the radiation muted, but not eliminated. You can still know they are alive. Me: A clone like Tommy Harada or DOA? Norm: Nope. I could sense them just as well as anything else. These kidnappers were simply not existant on the living plane. I don't know what it means, but I do not like it. Me: Me neither. I'm going to let you get some rest and pass this info to the net-tribe. Talk to you tomorrow. Norm: Later. Thanks for coming by. How did you get in here anyway? Me: Some things are better left unknown. 'Till tomorrow. */ End Voice Dump I don't know what this means. The guards were hit with a Squirt filled with a DMSO/unknown mixture that rendered them unconscious. These two then took the express elevator to the roof. The other kidnappers (counted by cameras as numbering 10) proceeded to the second floor meeting room where the enclave was meeting. Events were essentially as Norman described it. The ten kidnappers with J. Yoshida then took the express elevator to the roof where they joined the other two. Two minutes later, they were met by a Hughes WK-2 chopper and lifted to safety. The choppers were painted all black and had no registry numbers. IR scans also indicate that they were heavily modified with an active thermal masking system and a radar-absorbing coating. This is my preliminary report on Delta Epsilon's entry into Omega and a little recon info. We hooked up with Tommy Harada and the rebels just a few hours ago and are ready to start planning the downfall of Quention and company. Here's how we got in... When OddBall drove us by the pickup point, we were suprised to find that Nightstalker wasn't the only one to make it in time to join up with Delta Epsilon. Sycthe was there with him. Of course we questioned him thouroughly before letting him in the van, he didn't send an acknowledgement beforehand and we had never met him before, so after the initial tension we got along just fine. (sorry chummer, we needed more than a credstick to make sure you were who yopu said you were, no offense, but that's business!). Anyway, we then proceeded to DDI's manhattan complex for our unusual ride to the island. With the van parked discretely away, we switched to a mitsu nightsky and got in using the security passes I was able to fake with Kat's help. We then loaded our gear into a cargo canister along with ourselves. After a few hours wait, we were airlifted to Omega in a crate marked as Construction Supplies and Electronics :: Handle With Care. It was a bumpy and uncomfortable ride, but it got us there. The real worry we had was that if the crate was diverted to land on the Intrepid, we would be in deep drek. Luckily our false clearance sprung no alarms and we were taken to an airfield in the capital city of Omega Island. When we touched down, we only had to wait a few minutes before Harada's diversion allowed us to disembark. With most of the security force trying to stop Tommy from blowing up the presidential mansion, we only had to take out a handful of guards before leaving for the interior of the Island in a stolen truck. Our recon was sucessful, we now know that all the main cities are strongly held by the Omega army, while most of the countryside is in the hands of the rebels. I don't know what Tommy did, but it seems that he convinced the opposition to return to a defensive posture rather than actively seeking out and eliminating rebel units. In the next few minutes, we are going to confer with Tommy and the other "random factors" as Tirandor would say, that have come to Omega to join the revolt. We have to find out who the traitor in the command squad is and soon. we can't let the baddies find out that Delta Epsilon is in town or else our scaly friend Tirandor won't rest until he has my head on his flight deck. <> ]<<<<< ---Dark Elf <14:58:28/04-12-54> >>>>>[ <> I KNOW WHO THE TRAITOR IS!!!!! What with Yoshida going missing I thought it might be useful. It seems Ares began working on such a project now 5 years ago, a sort of rigger controlled, magic resistant borg. They were going to sell it to the military, I heard the the tech boys at Ares called the project 'The Universal Soldier' after the old flat back in the tail ennd of the last century. Anyway, about 2 years ago they were hit by with what can only be described as a very precise military operation. It was all covered up at the time, even the people in the shadows knew nothing about it as all the operatives were from outta town. Three years of research went down the tubes in 1 night. The lab was completely destroyed as were all computer records and backups. Scince then people who worked or were in any way associated with that project have been dying at a rather alarming rate. Car crashes, electrical short-circuits, muggings, the causes are all different but the results are the same. So it seems just possible that whoever was responsible for kidnapping Mr Yoshida is responsible for this robbery. My contact in Ares said that with the right equipment, the top brains and a hellaofalota cash that the project could feasible be finished by now. Since I know you can all be trusted, I will give out the unclassified details of the case. You may find that it pertains to Shadowrunning and paramilitary actions in general and will have a definite impact on your jobs. While investigating Hostess, Inc for the allegedly using less than the UCAS RDA of certain vitamins and mineral, I uncovered a plot to make the average soldier ten times as formidable than his opponent, without magic, without cyberware. This would have been all well and good if the research was meant for Our Side, but as we all know, Corporations sell out to the highest bidder. I had to stop them. After obtaining clearance from my supervisors, I used my Initiate skills to invisibly sneak into the area. The background count was enormous- The inside of this Hostess factory was almost as revolting as Tianammen Square or the nuclear hot spots left in Europe. Cautiously, I made my way to the computer system. I stealthily downloaded a file a took it to Jaez for decrypting. It seems that used a nearly unbreakable code, one based on Oliver Stone's locks on his personal datafiles. I believe Jaez has already incorporated it into her encryption routines. What we found was that Hostess was researching an item of vast potential power: The Mocha Donut. As you know, according to the UCAS census of 2052, breakfast is statistically the most important meal of the day. Imagine the power unleashed in a well-trained soldier, awakened at the crack of dawn by the hint of baked java, after he eats this double whammy. I know coffee and I know donuts, and the two together pack enough power to light up the Renraku Arcology. I've since forwarded the data to Headquarters, where they will decide what action to take. In the meantime, I've set up a surveillance team with snipers on standby. We may very well end up raiding this temple to man's caffinated decadence.
