Spectre is in stable condition, though unconscious at the moment. Lucky showed up and told me that they had all gotten split up, so she didn't know what had happened. She mind-probed Spectre to find out. Then had a stiff drink (for some reason I am reminded of an old Red Dwarf episode, where Rimmer's mind is displayed for all and it's really disturbing-- I hope Spectre never reads that). She made an audio recording of what she saw while probing. Here it is. ^^^^^Begin Audio download, Lucky sounds exhausted.^^^^^ Is this on? Allright. Spectre and I split up to ask around the Abyss, looking for clues. I SAW the lady, but before I could do anything I felt....I can't describe it. I know (now) that I was ensorcelled somehow (and through my shielding). I became depressed, almost suicidally so. And I didn't want to do anything. I wandered out back. There was no one there, so I guess this was after Lotus Mage was found wandering. I was overwhelmed with memories of my dead parents, dead step-parents, dead friends. I just started to bawl. I eventually curled up and went to sleep. When I woke up it was 3 hours later- I realized what had happened but I didn't know what to do. I decided it would be best to stay quiet until something happened. When I heard about Spectre... This is what I learned from the probe. The images and emotions were...intense. Spectre was scoping the place, looking for clues, when Raven, Nightstalker, and Cerise showed up. He talked with them, and they were planning strategy when they saw TWO Widowmakers, and TWO Highlanders. Needless to say, they were unsure what the drek to do. Raven and Cerise checked them out astrally, only someone had completely screwed the astral aura around all of them and they couldn't tell the difference. Raven really cussed about the astral static spell, and also mentioned she'd never seen one so powerful before. After a bit of discussion, they split up. Cerise and Spectre followed one pair, who headed for the Puyallup Barrens. Raven and Nightstalker followed the other, destination unknown. Spectre and Cerise followed "Highlander" and "Widowmaker" to a building in Puyallup. They went into the basement, where they found an access hatch to the city sewers. They continued to track the pair, only to round a corner and find them both collapsed, rigid, eyes wide with fear. Then, Spectre's sixth sense or something kicked in cause he just dodged wildly. I caught a glimpse of Cerise being thrown forward, blood spurting from her back. Spectre whipped around and charged what I think were spider spirite with his spurs. They were everywhere. I could hear Cerise calling her elementals, and felt their heat. Sometimes as the fight twisted I caught glimpses of Cerise and her elementals fighting. One elemental died and Cerise and I, sorry, I mean Cerise and Spectre killed two spirits. There were still 3 spirits so they ran through the sewers. As they did so, the tunnel started to shake and collapse, like an earthquake or something. A hole opened up under Spec... that was so close. Anyway, it opened up. Spectre's so fast he managed to jump clear but Cerise was sliding down. I... DAMNIT, I mean Spectre grabbed her wrists, and started to yank her up when something just materialized next to me. Oh GOD, it was a spider. but different from the rest. It's legs were razor sharp. I'm trying to tell this rationally, but... Spectre didn't have time to react. One of the legs kicked out and sliced his hand off. That hurt so bad....Spectre just reacted instinctively. He let go of Cerise to strike the thing with his spurs. I guess he realized that was bad at the last sec because he almost dived down the hole trying to catch her. The hole looked deep, but it also looked like it opened out into some sort of natural rock cavern, rather than into another sewer level--it might be the Underground. Anyway, Spectre only just snagged her watch, and the band broke as he yanked. Doesn't always remember his own strength, I guess. Cerise screamed, so loud. I felt another strike in my back and I rolled under the spirit. My wrist hurt so much. I just stabbed upward, connecting with its belly, and shoved. I was solidly in, so I just ot my feet under me and pushed forward. I realized at the last second that I had pushed the thing into the hole. It lost its balance and started to fall, so I pulled clear. I remember it just disappeared as it falled. I, I mean Spectre couldn't see any sign of Cerise so he started to wander around looking for an exit. He was losing a lot of blood and his mind eventually became too wild for me to piece together a coherent memory. He must have found an exit, and then Anonymous found him. That's all. ^^^^^End audio dump^^^^^ I hope Nightstalker and Raven are in better shape. They had just stolen some information from a corp called "Magnatech" or something and were gonna make a breakthrough with it. The key thing is that they hadn't just been working on clones--they'd found a way to program the human brain, forging neural links and pathways to suit. They'd sone some work on rats and chimps, makingtechnician apes, guards, and others. They can program the brain like any other computer. As you know, that's what makes Trolls so tough, but it's limited. It also doesn't heal as fast. What they had done was found a way to splice that into the clone materials, so they could conceivably grow humans, elves, and dwarves with such skin. They were also boosting it, so that the skin would be even tougher. I don't know science, so I couldn't tell you how. They were also working on "control modules". As far as I can tell, this is how they work. A rigger's VCR works by transmitting data to the brain and accepting commands from the brain. These work similarly. Thanks to the map Highlander gave me in that encrypted message of his we knew the layout of the building he was in. A little trip down to the City Records Building along with a pretty good idea of what block he was on indicated that he was in a medium security apartment building. Piece of cake. We scouted out the building and discreetly talked to the neighbors. This allowed to determine that he had to be in a 6th story apartment that was regestered to one Tabitia Young. I looked for some details on her and it became readily obvious that it was a fake ID, SIN and all. Right after we posted that last set of messages, Raven told me it was time to go. We entered the building (Yes at 10 in the morning) through a back door and went up the stairs. We got to the apartement and I hooked up to the security system and set it up to open the door in 10 seconds. I then moved into position. It was actually a rather stupid plan, hit them hard, hit them fast, but for some reason Raven thought it was a great plan. The door unlocked and I slammed it open, katana in my left hand and Predator in the right. I moved into the living room to find it rather empty. Raven followed right behind me, talking lowly in Latin, with her magesword drawn. A quick look into the kitchen and dining room found them empty, so we went into the hall. We didn't get any farther than that, because Highlander came out of the bedroom in his shorts. I moved towards him, but before I got to him a Spider Spirit manifested betwwen his. I jumped to the side, deflecting its attack with my katana, and Raven came up and gave it a large cut. It started to fight her so I did a cartwheel past it and asked Highlander where she was. He lamely replied, "She went out to run some errands. You really shouldn't be here. She doesn't like company very much." I decided he wouldn't be much help and looked past him into the bedroom. All I saw there was a shimmering that must have been an astral spirit dodging around the top of a king-sized bed. I turned back outwards to see Raven stepping past the disintergrating spirit to grab Highlander's arm. She told him it was time to go but he began to protest rather vigorously. I decided we didn't have time to debate with a mind controlled decker, so I knocked him out. Raven glared at me, then told me to grab his trenchcoat. We pushed him into it and walked him down the stairs to the Westwind and got the hell out of there. As we were driving away, I noticed that Raven was talking under her breath while she was astrally precieving. Ace, heres the scoop: I did some checking and found out that the women (supposed sister of the guy we're looking for) is a wealthy women who is now working on charity affairs of the Paranatural Wildlife Fund & Rescue. Also, she is an only child. After I confronted her with these facts she sung quite a different story than before. So here's the new version. The Fund recent ly "aquired" a baby dragon that was found in Amazonia by some villagers. It was a small dragon (10-14 ft long) and because of this was mistaken for one of the small nonsentient Dracoforms. The Fund took it to their preserve (magicly Warded) and let the thing roam - taking good care of it. Apparently, some group found out that it was a real DRAGON (ala Lofwyr) and raided the place. The staff of the Preserve was butchered (real pro-like) and they tried to Kidnap the dragon - had a mage all ready to bring it down. Unfortunately for them, they underestimated the power of even a young dragon and a magical battle-royal ensued. Result: the mage died, the "baby" Dragon was hurt, confused, and angere d. It broke out of the Preserve, through the Ward, escaping to Seattle. The raiding group vanished. The Paranatural Wildlife Fund tried to keep it quiet and find the Dragon themselves -- thats where they got a picture of it in Human-form (a MagiTracker mage type spotted it, got a picture, but then the dragon spotted him following it and disappeared). Unfortunately, the goons who originally wanted to kidnap the thing have also been spotted (they've killed a few P.W.F. tracking personel l) and Mrs. Largemont (our employer) is worried that the Fund will not be able to handle this job. So she hired us. Telling a lie to do it. Now she swears she 's come clean. The payen is Y100,000 for the capture (alive) of the dragon - another Y100,000 if we eliminate the Raiding goons. Anyway, as I watched the thread pulsed, and Mask's aura started to shift, quick as I could I summoned as much mana as I could handle and dispelled the link, IT _WASN'T_ EASY, but I managed too, _just_. As I was recovering from the strain, these spider spirits start to appear all over the place, luckily SpotOn hadn't left to meet with KHANx yet, the girl reacted quickly and dived straight into combat with them, she nailed the first one before it had even properly formed, damn that girl has a powerfull aura, if I didn't know better I'd think she was a full mage. The reason I needed it returned follows: My trip regarding the object was to meet with a person who call himself "Keeper". He told me he represents the order of Ani T'Hoth, the magical order formed by the followers of Arago T'Hoth. As you will remember, this is the former Aztechnology mage from 2022 whose spirit and being is supposed to be contained in this damn barbed wire contraption. "Keeper" then subjected me to a four and a half hour orientation into the "dogma" of Ani T'Hoth, from which I will kindly spare you. I could sense nothing of Keeper. I mean NOTHING. It was as if he didn't exist. I don't know what to think of him. The Ani T'Hoth temple is located in the city of Linao, Kanai province of New Mongolia. The long and short of it is THEY WANT THE FOCUS RETURNED TO THIER TEMPLE. Keeper told me they are not a wealthy order, but they can offer items of great value and knowledge of interest (especially to mages), as reward. He also will arrange airfare for myself and up to five others to return the power focus. He then handed me a small, oddly shaped hematite (I think) stone which he said would verify their link to the focus. That ended the meeting. This is why I needed the focus back in my possession. As I'm sure you noticed, on the back of the focus was a small indentation. The stone he gave me was the same shape and size so I naturally placed the stone (after some protective workings) into the indentation. Instanly an image of an elf dressed in corporate attire appeared and I was drawn into a scrying state. The image slowly moved his arm and very deliberately pointed due east, then disappeared. After a few moments I removed the stone and then placed it back again. This time nothing happened. The energy I had previously felt from the stone was gone. It seems it was only meant to work once. I decided to do some checking. I was standing at 47 degrees 31 minutes north latitude. A quick glack at a map showed that from my position, the image was pointing directly at the city of Linao. "Keeper said he would contact me again in two days by messenger at (***encrypt sitekeep***). What did you find out about Ian Cullen. That was a lead from (***encrypt source***). Then one day he just disappeared. No notes, nothing. His personnel file still has him marked as being on "unpaid leave." That was more than 30 years ago, though, back in 2022. More information than this will take substantially more digging, and most likely a decker. Where's Kenda, anyway. Or wasn't there a new decker out there looking for work? I'll leave the interviewing up to you. Equally interesting was the reaction of Aztechnology. As you know, I can usually paw through their mundane files such as old personnel records without anyone so much as noticing. This time I was accosted by an elven woman, who identified herself only as "Ms. Johnson" (Imagine. Someone at _Aztech_ referring to themselves as Johnson to _me_.) She mentioned that Mr. Cullen had been working on something "important" when he left his post, and Aztech wants it back. Really bad. And they're offering mega-nuyen for its return. Her exact words were, "He was working on an item. We want it back, either in one piece, or at least return the shrapnel." I hate corp-speak. My guess is that Mr. Cullen is, or perhaps better - became - Arago T'Hoth, and the "item" Aztech wants is the focus. I don't trust this Ms. Johnson, but I'm not sure I trust your "Keeper" either. If Cullen/Arago T'Hoth's entire being is (which I beleive it is) truly bound up in this barbed wire contraption, his will is as well (if you are drinking I didn't mean a document). By the reaction of the mage RM found it on (cutting, destroying himself, etc.) I would suspect that was Cullen/ T'Hoth's will was acting upon the wearer. If it became necessary, someone could put this damn thing on to give Cullen/T'Hoth's will a form to act through, though I am certain the actions would be very limited, the wearer may learn what we need to know. He's been busy with me, and it's NOT what you think. After receiving KHANx' information, I decided to do a bit of visiting myself. K was recruited to run interference for me. You know, do away with silly things like security cameras and the like. I'll let him tell his version of what he found in her files. I knew something wasn't quite on the up-&-up with her from the start. I assumed, after KHANx redecorated her apartment, that she'd be gone. I planned to assense the place and leave. But the dumb little witch was home. I started with a bit of "friendly persuasion," but that failed. Not only didn't she know me, she didn't even know _about_ me. That's when I knew her story was all a front. It's also when I got mad. She assumed I'd come unprepared, some doddering fool dressed in silk, just wandering into her home and asking questions. She managed to get her handgun from the desk, but she wasn't prepared for the elemental I brought along. It didn't take long to physically subdue her. Her answers were not forthright and direct, so I did the only thing I could have done. I ripped her brains apart from the inside. It's very difficult to lie when you have not only truth spells acting upon you, but also when your every nightmare seems hellishly real and about to strike. Ah, well. C'est la vie. She was both of KHANx predictions. Both a spy and a hired gun. But she hand't been hired by the UCAS. I don't know exactly who. Her superiors told her that Cullen had been involved with some kind of blood ritual designed to encapsulate his own spirit into his power focus. They're thirsty to get their hands on T'Hoth, the focus, or both. Something about "reclaiming our ancient heritage" or some such babble. I suspect it's a bit less intellectual than that. After I was through querying her, I was still enraged. So I let my companion loose. I believe when Lone Star arrives, they'll have to identify her by her DNA. There are no pieces large enough for other forms of identification. It was truly a scene to make even The Ragman proud. Funny how I've managed to become covered in various sorts of visceral fluids recently, isn't it. I think I'll sell all my Nehru jackets and go in for the tie-dye look. I've arranged for things to be all neat and tidy at the Company, so we have no worries about Aztech helicopters arriving in the middle of the night. In fact, some of my contacts there were quite interested that they'd been infiltrated by an outsider. I suspect there will be several vacancies in the Information and Personnel Departments. I also have a copy of her personnel file, should anyone care to inspect it. I found nothing of interest there, however. It all appears to be a very well-orchestrated hoax. If my actions have backed you into a corner, FraterNay, I apologize. But I couldn't let that little fraud get away with her ruse. And right now, I don't give a tinker's damn about what you think. I've been crawling the Barrens and poppin' discrete queries at just about everyone I know. Nothing so far (that is if you discount the following story). A few nights ago, this wild-eyed wizboy in a tattered yellow robe comes crashing into this taproom/chow palace called the 'Casa de Diablo' or some such thing, heads up to the buffet table (it was happy hour) and starts stuffin' his trap. When the owner comes over (shotgun in hand), this character takes one look at him, tosses him a ENORMOUS star saphire, and goes back to feeding his gullet like he's had no proper chow in days. All the time he's waving his arms and yakkin' in some Spanish dialect that no one understood. Then, as soon as the grub's gone, he high-tails it back into the street and was gone. I apologize for the delay in getting this information to all of you, but my sources took a lot longer than I expected. Following the initial inquriry by Ramirez, I began to do a little checking as to the disposition of the case against Leon Meyers. As near as I can tell, the D.A. has dropped all charges against Meyers citing "insufficient evidence" and "questionable mental stability" [of Meyers]. Insufficient evidence I could understand (all of our illegally gained evidence cannot be admitted), but I researched the claim of 'questionable mental stability' a little bit more. Meyers is crazy. He's deeply in love with MONICA!!!! He believes she's a real person and even when presented with evidence showing her to be an artifical construct, he refused to believe it. He insists that she is in love with him. He refused to believe that MONICA was incapable of feeling emotions. Or can she? MONICA's recent activites makes me believe that she WAS able to feel emotion (at least the second time around). Why, you ask? She had a very systematic plan of _revenge_ against Yoshida Tech and Fuchi. Revenge is not a logical action, especially if her goal, in accordance to her original goal, was to become very powerful and take over the net. She would be better off to do that in silence and not draw attention to herself by kidnapping and murdering powerful businessmen. Thus, I feel that she is now indeed endowed with emotions. Perhaps when RUFUS melded with her, some of his residual emotions were integrated into her. So, I wonder... Anyways, as to Meyers, he was released and made the ward of an anonymous corporation under the Offender Rehabilitation and Partnership Act of 2048. I have not been able to track down which company took responsiblity for Meyers (while he was not charged and release, he was declared 'mentally stressed', which requires a ward to be reponsible for him for 6 months). So, in any case, it appears that Meyers is out of the picture.]<<<<< -- Wolf 359 <15:12:04 / 06-27-54> >>>>>[Couldn't Meyers be charged with at least the assault on Joe Yoshida?]<<<<< -- Ramirez <> >>>>>[It was Joe's word against Leon's. There was also a background file on Aztechnology with a layout of the Seattle H.Q. No other mention of Cullen though, or any of the focus. Gryphon informs me that it's a highly unstable radioactive material, with potential use in weaponry. Anyway I got to the park and before heading in called up a _large_ forest spirit, by the way the meet place was perfect for me, a wolf conjuror specialist where he can summon a forest spirit. Anyway I move in and the place is crawling with drones, Lucky's backup I guess. After 10 minutes of wandering around I find and greet Lucky. About this time all hell breaks loose, several plane-drones try to fly over us, but NodeFaerie caught one with his rotor drones and it just noseplanted into the ground. The other one, however, starts spewing out black widow spiders everywhere as it flies overhead. About this time Lucky draws her blades and leaps at _me_. As the widow plane banks around, two more drones come into view behind it and one launches a missile (more of Lucky's backup I believe), yep you guessed it, no more widow plane, alas I and Lucky already had several spiders assaulting us. The razorguys with me then turned and opened fire at, what I could only say was the widowmaker as several _big_ spider spirits were manafesting around us. As Lucky closed on me I knew the situation was hopeless, so abandoning the gang I called for the spirit to wrap it's protection around Lucky and I. Lucky by the way seriously nailed my leg with those blades before I managed to 'convince' her to have a nap. Several of the spider spirits attacked my spirit while it concealed us, it managed to beat them off, but only just. Deciding to cut and run I instucted the spirit to transport us to the edge of the park, before sending it back to slow down the spirits that were chasing us. I then threw Lucky into the car we had waiting and left, quickly. In the car I killed the few black widows that were on us. Drek I'm glad I researched an toxincure spell before getting myself into this widowmaker thing. Anyway I can only assume that the forest spirit did it's job because no spider spirits were after us _yet_. Anyway I headed straight for my circle's safehouse with Lucky, I'm still here cos this place is _very_ heavily warded, and thus relatively safe. Lucky is still on ice, I assennsed her and well, she is tagged, and the spell is operative, I need someone great on the astral _quickly_ tearchild, ragman, anyone, I think Lucky's starting to change! By the way anonymous it is possible that raven, spectre etc, have the web-spell attachment, my research thus far indicates that it was not a residual from the former possession but a ritual connection made afterwards! Within a day of when they saw the widowmaker at the Abyss, thus they would have not noticed it happening, hell most of them were unconscious/dazed for a while after that episode. As a side note I checked mask again, and he's clean, in fact he should just about be home now, I've filled him in on what feeling he'll get if that bitch tries to reconnect. By the way I got a quick look at that widowmakers aura before I scrambled outta there.
