He recently was dismissed from Director of Operations of BIS (which no doubt was related to his being kidnaped for a trade to free Doomsday), and now he got this little reward for his past. Early last night, two slots, a troll and an overweight human hippie from the looks of things, were in a car (nothing new, I know). The driver, the hippie, was typical of Berlin's drivers - deplorable. Anyway, HAMMER was going to a local policlub meeting (not that it is too big of a secret where his political thoughts lie) and he got broadsided by the driver. While this in itself would not be unique, the fact that the driver managed to catch HAMMER between the side of his fast-moving car and a building (the drekking fool was driving on the sidewalk no less!). The troll reached out from the back, smashed his hand into the wall, barely missing HAMMER. But he did succeed in losing the long two-handed sword that he was carrying. It went bouncing off the building and back over the tail end of the car. But wait, it gets better. The troll apparently panics and opens the door and lunges across the trunk and actually succeeds in catching the sword! Of course nothing was holding him to the car, so he went flying. The hippie realizing that he lost his passenger slams on the brakes. The troll meanwhile rolls, and manages to get up and start running toward the stopping car. At about this juncture, the local residents decide to enter the fun and start shooting at the troll (but not the car). The troll dives through the back window of the car, and as soon as the troll was barely in it speeds off! All in all I would have to say it was a pretty good show. HAMMER to say the least isn't going anywhere for a while. (But he will live, for his policlub drekheads were able to get him medical attention. I will wager well over a cool mil (if I had it), that he will be sporting at least a new set of legs.) As to the troll and the hippie, they got away. By the time the authorities responded there were no traces of "criminals." Of course if you ask most people, HAMMER got what only part of what he deserved. ]<<<<< -- Ratspeak <13:09:22/2-7-56> >>>>>[ You left out a little juicy tidbit. The troll was Doomsday. Yet I can thank him heartily. You might ask why, for he is a traitor to his country. Well the simple fact is this: the two former Directors of Operations were Nightmare and HAMMER who both blatantly had their own little agendas as they have wonderfully proved. If it wasn't for this car incident, HAMMER might have been reinstalled to his former job. But now he won't be. And _I_ will finally get to choose someone who will do a good job. ]<<<<< -- Erik Schmidt <13:10:55/2-7-56> >>>>>[ Erik leaves out the fact that if he hadn't used HAMMER to trump up the treason charges, it would be Nightmare running the whole show. Finally they succeed in convincing everyone that Nightmare is a traitor and arrest him. It's pretty undescribable save for the fact that it is missing plates. It takes you a second to figure out where this is being taken. You figure it is extremely late night in a rainy sprawl. Probably Seattle, but then again you can never be sure. A troll, Doomsday gets out. You see him reach in the back and pull something out. It looks like it is a piece of white cloth. He quietly rips off two strips and hands one to a person who is still inside the van. Quickly he ties a piece around his right arm. He then pauses and looks around again. Doomsday: "God I'm tired. What a long day. I dink da gangers will be gone fer a little while. I hope da decoy is good enough not to get herself geeked." A man's tired voice softly responds, "She knew the risk, and said that she had ways to get out of a mess. Besides, she took our payment easily enough. I'm all set. Let's hope everything goes smooth." Doomsday grunts and walks into a building. It takes you a second to recognize it. It is Polish's. If that is the case, by the timing of this Doomsday must have just gotten into town really recently. After a few minutes, Nightmare gets out of the van. He has his sword at his waist. Strapped on his back is a large two-handed sword. Tied on his right forearm is a white strip of cloth. You can tell he is extremely tired and oddly for him, nervous. He quickly walks out of the rain into the building. The camera follows as he walks in. The people who were mostly talking to Doomsday at one table, all stare coldly at Nightmare as he enters and stop talking. Doomsday points at a far room. Nightmare walks across to the door and enters. Much to your dismay the camera doesn't spend any time on the faces so you cannot figure out who is in the bar. Nightmare knocks on the door, but it is hard to tell if he waits for an answer before entering. He almost shuts the door cutting off the camera, but remembers and lets the camera drone enter first. Inside the dimly lit room is a beautiful redheaded elf. She looks stunning even if she is wearing completely black. Nightmare stands just inside the doorway looking at her for a long time. Amazingly calm, he asks, "May I sit?" The female emotionlessly responds, "You don't really deserve to." Nightmare forces a smile and says, "I seem to hear that a lot. Let me make this quick, because I don't want to ruin the hospitality I have been given. I want to extend my condolences to you on your loss Cerise. Yes it is extremely late, but so is everything else I seem to do." The elf, Cerise, starts to say something but Nightmare raises a hand to forestall it. He continues by saying, "I know you have no love for me and all the things I have had a hand in. I don't blame you or ask for your forgiveness. As you may or may not know Blitzkrieg recently came out of his coma. Well, while I was sitting around, I had a lot of time to think over my past interrogations of HAMMER -" Cerise interrupts, "You surprised me, I didn't think you would let him go." Nightmare says, "I like to surprise people. Actually, I much prefer the thought of having Doomsday free from Interpol more than I care about getting immediate revenge on HAMMER. But anyway, I thought about some bizarre things that he said which at the time I chose to not focus on. Slowly with the unknowing help of DragonEyes and Scourge I was able to piece enough of what actually happened to register that I should really ask HAMMER a few more questions. As it turned out, on my first surveillance night watching him, I found him carrying and using this." Nightmare elegantly swings the large bundle off his back and puts it on a table. Cerise quickly unwraps it and gasps. Nightmare says, "If I had just taken the time, I could have probably brought it to you a lot sooner. Unfortunately, I was a little narrow in my field of inquiries during the interrogation." Cerise just looks stunned at Nightmare. She finally manages to say, "Why?" Nightmare sighs and pauses for a good moment. He then softly says, "Mark, my poor half-brother, was going to kill a friend of his over where the sword was. I figured if I got it back to you, and tried to prove WHAT's innocence to you it might spare WHAT some more pain. Actually to be completely honest, WHAT's plight meant little to me. I wanted to ease some burdens that Mark is carrying and I want to try and start working a positive relationship out between me and him." Cerise says softly, "After what happened in Germany last year, I am amazed that you are even bothering." Nightmare nods sadly and says, "I wish I could undo my past. So much pain would have been avoided and so many deaths. Indirectly I suppose that even -- even Powerhouse's death can be blamed on me. Yes it was IBA's helping out DragonEyes in dealing with the Universal Brotherhood that caused the attack, but HAMMER planted enough evidence that caused them to actively hunt DragonEyes in the first place." Nightmare says softly, "There is more. HAMMER struck at the sword because he knew that somewhere deep down I still cared for Blitzkrieg. He knew full well how unstable Blitzkrieg was because of PH's death. It was an easy prediction of how hard it would hit Mark and in turn me. HAMMER is a very vindictive person. I suppose that matter little right now seeing as he is getting new legs and such." Nightmare paces a little bit and then says, "So basically, I got the sword back because I want Blitzkrieg to at least stop hating WHAT. It may not ease my cause any in trying to find a way to build a bridge over our family's bloody past, but I thought it was worth a try. One small thing, don't take this as I did it merely for Blitzkrieg's sake. While my relationship with him is weighing on me greatly, I do sympathize with the pain that HAMMER's stealing of the sword caused you. But -- But I barely know you, and despite my getting this back to you, I doubt that we will ever truly be friends." He pauses for a second and pulls something out of his pocket. He backs to the door, opens it and says, "Here is what little is left from the last true job I did that I was hired to do. Donate to a worthy cause in Powerhouse's name. I'm sorry that I didn't do anything sooner to help you out in the search for this. Good night." Quickly he puts a credstick on the table. Immediately, he walks out of the room - studiously looking down the whole way. It is doubtful that he heard the tearful whisper that was uttered by the stunned Cerise. That whisper was "Thank you." ]<<<<< -- Scourge <13:20:15/2-7-56> >>>>>[ Well you can thank Scourge for getting to release this to you all. I am still very hesitant about showing this to you all, but ... Scourge won the bet. +++++ Display trideo download. You see a somewhat familiar hospital room. In the bed is a still comatose human body of Mark (aka Blitzkrieg). Next to the bed is a man who is sitting on a chair. Judging the man's position on the chair, it is either a very uncomfortable chair or he has been sitting in it for a long time. He, Nightmare, has short blond hair that looks like it hasn't been combed in days. He is also starting to grow a beard. Sitting on the floor to his right is a large troll, who unlike Nightmare looks decently rested. In between the two is a small table with an ornate chess set on it. Apparently the troll is playing white. As the troll, who is most likely Doomsday, considers his move, Nightmare gets up and sits on the bed. He seems to be muttering something that you cannot quite catch. One thing for sure he is paying far more attention to Blitzkrieg than he is the chess game. An older elven Indian walks into the room. The Indian looks at Blitzkrieg and sighs. DragonEyes: "When was the last time either of you checked the node for interesting news?" Nightmare (offhandedly): "Before I came here." (Doomsday nods as he continues to search for a move.) DragonEyes: "Well then I have good news -- what are you thinking Nightmare?" Nightmare: "I wonder . . ." DragonEyes: "Don't!" Unfortunately, DragonEyes' cry goes out in vain, as Nightmare's left-hand starts to glow red. Time seems to slow as his hand approaches Blitzkrieg's chest. When his hand connects with Blitzkrieg's chest, the lights seem to flare. You hear a roar of anguish come from Nightmare and . . . and one of sheer pain come from Blitzkrieg. Nightmare falls off the bed clutching his left hand to his mid-section. DragonEyes ignores him and rushes to check Blitzkrieg. There is also some commotion at the door. Then you hear a feminine voice say, "WHAT and Fenris move aside, please! You two are too strong for me to move normally, and now I'm weaker than usual. What happened?" DragonEyes responds, "I wonder. Nightmare just tried something and while it didn't quite work, its intriguing. Hhhhmmmmm." You can see smoke rising from where Nightmare is huddled over his hand. Through clenched teeth he says, "Frag! Well -- what -- is -- your -- good -- news, DragonEyes?" Doomsday calmly says, "Is dere any change in Mark?" DragonEyes responds, "No. Well maybe not. I don't know. I'll need some time. And then I'll look at your hand, Nightmare. What you did was very foolish. You could have killed him." Nightmare shudders for a little bit. He then clears his throat and looks at DragonEyes. You can see fresh tears on his face. He then says, "I really hate casting healing magic on myself. Yes DragonEyes, I could have. But somehow I knew I wouldn't. Well, what is the good news, or should I say, is their any good news left in this damn world?" DragonEyes looks blank for a second, nods, and then says, "Oh yes, the news. Maze announced that on the eighteenth, Doom had miraculously reawakened!" Nightmare looks stunned. For a few moments he tries to speak, but all he can do is smile. He shakes his head and says, "That's great! I'll have to send a note off to Maze." He then pauses and says, "What a second, the eighteenth?" DragonEyes merely nods. Nightmare sighs and says, "What is today?" Doomsday responds, "Da twenty-fourth." Nightmare curses softly and then sighs. He says, "I really have lost track of time." You watch silently as DragonEyes does a thorough checking of Blitzkrieg. Smiling he says, "I think we may have a way to bring back Blitzkrieg!" Nightmare smiles hopefully. Doomsday says, "Dat's great man! How?" DragonEyes blushes, "Well, through Nightmare, I'll explain the details to him in a bit. Hmmm. Two things to cover beforehand though. First everybody else should go into the other wing in case something goes drastically wrong. Fenris, stay close enough so as to pull us out if things go wrong. Second, I don't know how Mark is going to react to well WHAT or Nightmare for that matter." WHAT cries, "WHAT!?! What do you mean you don't know how he will react!? We're bloody friends. How would you react if you saw a friend? Happy I think!" DragonEyes looks extremely uncomfortable. Fenris clears his throat and stares at DragonEyes until he nods. Fenris quietly says, "Look WHAT, the only thing saving you from a beating right now is the fact that DragonEyes demanded no violence here. The night you left Seattle last, Powerhouse's sword was stolen. Frankly all the evidence points at you. Blitzkrieg went ballistic when he heard about it. He's wants that sword back badly -- bad enough to kill anyone in pursuit of it." WHAT looks extremely shocked, "Someone stole PH's sword?! No tell me it's just a trick." Doomsday says softly in his deep voice, "Sorry WHAT dis isn't any trick. All da evidence points ta ya as da culprit. So while we are discussin' it, where is da sword?" WHAT looks around wildly and says, "I can't believe you! You are accusing me of stealing his sword! PH was my friend! Why the frag would I steal that?" Fenris looks directly at WHAT and says, "I don't know why WHAT, but I would like to know." DragonEyes raises his hand, "Let's do this the simple way." He pauses for a few seconds and then continues, "I really want to believe you WHAT. I think we all do, so I will assume you are telling me the truth. On the night you left Seattle, you had arranged transportation for an item, yes or no?" WHAT replies (bordering on hysterics), "Yes!" DragonEyes sighs, "Okay. Where did you go? I know it wasn't Pittsburgh." WHAT replies softly, "I went to Germany." Fenris snarls, "Let me guess you gave the sword to Nightmare right?" WHAT looks shocked, "No! I visited Nightmare to talk to him about something else." He looks imploringly at Nightmare who just simply nods. "Listen, I didn't take the sword, but I would love to know who did." Nightmare says quietly, "And who framed you so well no doubt. Yes WHAT came to talk to me, but I cannot vouch for all his time in Germany. And no Fenris, while I do not doubt you would love to pin this all on me, I have to admit I do not have the sword." Fenris snarls, "Well then where the hell is it?" WHAT looks suspiciously at Nightmare. Nightmare just smiles. After a little while he says, "WHAT, you left on the night that the sword was stolen. You shipped yourself and some item to Germany to come talk to me. You played up the conversation enough to make it look like you were ready to deal with HAMMER if you two met. Is not all of this true?" WHAT looks sullen for a while. He finally says, "I can't believe you all are doing this. Well, I believe it of Nightmare but I don't believe it of the rest of you. Yes, I said I was ready to deal with HAMMER. The item I brought to Germany was a nasty surprise for him in case he tried to arrest me. I will say this, It wasn't the sword. Last I knew it was still in Seattle." Nightmare dryly chuckles, "Maybe or maybe not. Hypothesis who in the world besides us in the room, would be nasty enough to steal a sword." Fenris snarls, "I don't see how that relates to WHAT's guilty or innocence! I want to believe you WHAT, but . . ." Nightmare sighs, "Assume for a moment that you did a case study based on how people would react if a certain object was stolen. You base a hypothetical conclusion from past experiments is that a bunch of people would be hurt by this action. And furthermore, that some of those people would be devastated enough to do anything to get that item back, including striking at innocent people like some of their friends." He shakes his head and continues, "As much as I don't like to say it, Blitzkrieg fitted that category and WHAT brought it to my attention. Anyway, the object was stolen. The question is who hates people enough to do that?" Fenris growls, "You would." Nightmare calmly responds, "I only would do that if they were my opponents or true enemies. I don't consider you guys enemies. You all qualified as past opponents. Try again." Fenris says, "Well how do you know so much about this?" Nightmare focuses on Fenris, "Fenris, I was an intelligence operative. Be reasonable, playing detective sometimes fit into my job description. Some time must have passed since the last trideo clip sequence you saw from DragonEyes. You are currently looking at a pretty barren room. The only inhabitant, an ork, Fenris, is watching two men walking down a corridor. He doesn't look tohappy with his status of standing there watching. The two men are DragonEyes and Nightmare. DragonEyes is dressed in an ornate Indian ceremonial dress and is carrying a set of drums. The drums look like possibly one of the oldest sets still in the Front Range Free Zone. You cannot see his eyes, but by his walk it is obvious that he is nervous. Nightmare on the other hand is wearing slacks and a sword, in its sheath, at his waist. His left hand is wrapped up in bandages. On his right arm he has what looks like a tattoo of a serial code. If your hunch is correct, it's the type used at certain prisons. Unfortunately, you cannot get a good enough camera shot at it to run a trace on it. If Nightmare is nervous, it is impossible to tell. They walk into a room toward the end of the hallway at the same time. The camera angle shifts to Fenris. After a few moments, you hear drumming start. At first you cannot pick up the rhythm. It seems completely foreign to you. Yet the longer it continues - the more you can feel it - even through this trideo connection. Its power and melody singing out to you in a disturbingly haunting way. It almost seems to be coxing you to rise to some sort of pinnacle. Softly you can hear some words being said, but the drumming intricate rhythms turn them into a wonderful song. You could almost sit and listen to it for days, yet it calls out for some sort of action. Something in the back of your mind tells you that there is more behind it than this, but you cannot fathom what that is. Quickly you loose track of time. Seconds, minutes, even hours may have passed for all you can tell or care. Then all hell breaks out. The abruptness of it, catches you more unaware by the sudden stopping of the sweet music. Your mind is consumed by the camera surging off as it apparently is consumed by a power surge. You are deafened by a series of severe explosions. And then there is silence (of course that may be the fact that your ears are still ringing). --- Doomsday is crouching low behind a couch. He quickly gets up and grabs an assault rifle off the wall. He looks at a short elf and says, "Please come with me. Fer yar own safety Rebecca, I suggest ya stay behind." Without waiting to see if they are listening, he bolts down a corridor. Rebecca shouts (a little in hysterics), "But!" Doomsday snarls, "You are still weak. If dis is outside intervention, we will probably need ya ta call help fer us. Dat is assumin' dat dis is an attack." He quickly moves out of camera view. What pauses, and runs after him. --- There is silence for a while, and then you can faintly hear what must be a shouting voice, "DAMN YOU! YOU DESERVE DEATH! WHERE IS IT!?" --- For a while you don't see anything. Then Fenris, in tattered clothes, comes into view carrying DragonEyes and his drums. DragonEyes looks exhausted, but is conscious. Next comes around What supporting Nightmare. Nightmare is clutching onto his sword as if an enemy would come attack him at any moment. Yet you can plainly see tears on his face. Lastly, Doomsday comes into view. He is carry Blitzkrieg, who is loosely covered in a sheet, in his arms. But Blitzkrieg is awake! Rebecca limps up and hugs Blitzkrieg. As she moves toward him, he breaks down and starts crying. Doomsday slowly moves the two of them to a couch and puts him down. Fenris watches smiling and then helps DragonEyes into a chair. Nightmare pushes off What and limps up to Doomsday. Doomsday bends over and Nightmare whispers something to him. Doomsday looks startled. Doomsday says softly (so as to not let Rebecca or Blitzkrieg hear), "Ya are fraggin' crazy. Ya are about to collapse." Nightmare says sadly, "It must be done. He won't accept his own friends or me if I don't. And it might be the only way that he will even talk to me peacefully. I barely have this opportunity to try and straighten things out. I cannot pass this one up. Besides, I will not run from my past any longer. I need him, for he is my only family. Will you aid me?" Doomsday says, "If we go dere and get noticed it is a death sentence fer both of us." Nightmare says coldly, "Dead is almost like living without loved ones. I've been there already. Anyway, 'One more time to make him fear. One more time to show why people don't sleep at ease. One more time to hear him scream. One more time to make him learn the truth.' I cannot change my horrible past. But I might be able to make it up to Charles." Doomsday looks surprised and says, "Who?" Nightmare sighs and smiles weakly. "My mistake. Mark." Doomsday nods and says, "Ya are more desperate dan I have ever known ya ta be. Very well. I'll go. On one condition, we find a way to make HAMMER pay fer my latest stay at Interpol prison." Nightmare smiles so coldly it makes you want to check to make sure you have exists out of the room you are in. "I warned HAMMER to watch his back. I warned him that I may strike at any time. Hmm." He pauses and then proceeds to smile. This time though, all the coldness is gone. There is absolutely no emotion in his face at all as he says, "Depending on our timing, we might even repay him for debts owed by various people. Fenris, I will need to talk to you for a little bit." Fenris nods, as DragonEyes quietly says, "You are crazy Nightmare. How will going after HAMMER help Shadowfox?" Nightmare says, "While we are there looking in the mirror, I will trust Fenris to organize a trip to Japan. Either Doomsday and I will meet you in Japan or we won't." He drops his voice and further and says, "Either way time for Shadowfox grows short. He has always had far too many enemies. I don't know what he got himself into, but if HAMMER had his hand in it at all it probably won't be pleasant." Doomsday nods and adds, "Remember what he managed ta pull off in Africa. Dat man is one pain dat shall be dealt with. Once and fer all." Nightmare says viciously, "He will only stop being a pain if he dies. On the other hand, if he sees me striking again, it will put true fear into him. If my sources are correct he was removed from BIS operations because he was a 'security risk.' It was most likely caused by a certain ransoming that caused this 'unfortunate' turn of events. Whatever the case, he isn't my deepest concern there." He gestures at Blitzkrieg. "That is my concern. Watch after him, please." Fenris says, "You sound if you are going to leave now, yet you look like you are going to collapse. Hardly the state to pull a visit to one like HAMMER." Nightmare focuses on Fenris and says, "Will you lead the effort to get Shadowfox back?" Fenris nods as Nightmare continues by saying, "In that case, I will travel as far as I have to regain a semblance of family. Blitzkrieg is my only surviving family. While Shadowfox means a lot to me, I have to try and gain Ch -- Mark's trust if I'm to be able to help you in Japan." Fenris says, "Then we will meet in the future, if you are true to your word." Nightmare looks over to Blitzkrieg and Rebecca. She is holding him close to her. It appears that he is crying. It is evident that she was crying to, but the look of hatred directed toward Nightmare is evident. Nightmare sees it and blinks and looks at the ground. He turns and walks out. You think you can hear him say, "Why must it always be this way?" ]<<<<< -- DragonEyes <13:42:30/2-7-56> ***** Private: Scarface >>>>>[ We are about ready to finish plans on trying to find Shadowfox. Anyway, by now the newies have probably already got this out, but here's a first eye view of what happened on the Butterfly this morning. I had Majikthize along for eye-shots, so it'll get a little confusing later on. Take notes, there'll be a test on this later.... +++++ BEGIN TRID DOWNLOAD The trid begins with a shot looking through the window of a security vehicle. Freddy sits in the passenger seat smearing lime-green sunscreen on his face, looking into the vanity mirror. Freddy: "I hate this crap. Feels like avocado dip." Off-camera, presumably Majikthize: "What's it taste like?" Freddy flashed on unmistakable hand gesture to the camera. "Hey, your head better not be turned on." The view shakes back and forth, the action deliberately exaggerated to come across in the trid. "No, boss. I'd never do something like that." "Yeah, well, quit looking at me like that. Yer weirdin' me out." As Freddy climbs out of the passenger door, the view pans around the small collection of vehicles. Several LandRovers bearing FryppSec colors and two unmarked 'Rovers are pulled into the lower level of a parking garage with several heavily armed orks, trolls and humans, in FryppSec livery with a few others, wearing more casual outfits. "Christ, people, let's look professional. You look like we just knocked over some third-world hell hole." One of the orks, a female in an exceptionally tight uniform turns to Freddy, "This is Oakland, what's the difference?" "Good point. Allright," Freddy digs out a huge cigar from an interior pocket, "Anybody got a light for el Jeffe, then?" A high-pitched, off-camera whine is suddenly cut short by a massive explosion. As the ground shakes, the collection of people begin running to the LandRovers and pile in. "Hey, GoD, Griff, slip into the astral and take a look down the street. Sounds like the Marines are getting pounded." Freddy jerks a thumb towards the sound of the explosions. Two of the men dressed in FryppSec livery nod and hop into one of the 'Rovers where both of their bodies go limp as their eyes close. "Jac, Kabuki, get the tanks ready for action. Red, where the hell are you? Get your people ready for close combat, it's here." The Rovers start turning over and two of them proceed to pop wicked looking turrets out of their roofs. Somebody comes over the radio channel, which is spliced into the trid, "Boss, looks and sounds like heavy mortars. You want somebody to hunt them down?" Freddy reaches to activate his throat mike, "Yeah, yeah, Scip, they're yours, knock 'em dead." "On the waaaaay." Freddy pulls open the rear hatch of one of the Rovers and pulls out two shotguns and bandoliers of shells. "Here, 'Thize," the angle giggles as a shotguns flies towards the camera. "Hey, Boss!" An off-camera voice yells. "What?! Use the op-channel dammit!" Freddy, and the camera, spins to see who hollered. The camera settles on a shimmering, just barely visible haze floating in the garage. The haze starts to take vaguely human features. "Oh, GoD, wondered what the hell was takin' you so damned long. Your bodies over there, I hate talking to myself." Freddy waves towards an open space near one of the walls without looking. "Uh, yeah, that's the problem." "Aw, Christ, Scipio took 'em with him. Frag-up number one. Anyway, what's happening?" "The Marines are gettin' their asses thrashed. Lot's of explosions at the end of the bridge. Lots of casualties. Getting messy and tough to work. Painful just to be around. Coupla spirits popped up and are clearing traffic... mostly by dumping it in the bay. Griffyn's doing what he can - somebody else's showed up. Dunno who, but he's standin' there invisible, tossin' some killer crap. I gotta get back." A look of consternation crosses Freddy's face. "Yeah, allright, thanks. Get outta here." The haze fades out. "Fox 1, this Fox 10, we're in sight of the mortars. They're firing from a roof. We're deploying two shy of a full load. I just found out a couple are out to lunch." "Right, drop the fraggers, '10. Report in, by the numbers, vehicle crews, check your bone-sets." Each vehicle reports in that all systems are up and everyone's bone induction receivers are up and functioning. Moments later the last of the mortar rounds drops into the Marine positions. Several heavily laden vans tear past the parking garage at top speed. The streets deserted soon after the first mortars fell. "Mortars have ceased firing. We'll try to pick up the crews anyway." "Negative! Let 'em go. Bring back GoD and Griffyn. They might need their bodies." Freddy hops into his Rover and waves one arm out the window in a cavalry charge. The two 'Rovers with turrets lead the way out of the garage, scanning the buildings on both sides of the street. This far from the bridge, the streets are deserted, but several blocks down, the streets are filled with rubble and burning cars. Survivors of the barrage stagger around the wrecks. Judging by the wreckage a lane through the wrecks looks to have been cleared by a bulldozer. A tongue of flame leaps from one of the building and a black streak slams into the street near the lead 'Rover. The second sprays the front of the building with its minigun. "Kubuki Man! Talk to me! You whole still?" Another voice gets on the radio circuit, "Uh, no. I mean yeah. We must be, 'cause I don't plan on talkin' to you first off in the next life." "Good to hear, wiseass." "Our ECM must've melted the trackerhead and it missed. Lots of blast and shrapnel I imagine, gotta see if we can join up again. We're pullin' off, I gotta see what the armor didn't soak up." "Right. Make best time." The lead 'Rover pulls into an alley as the rest of the convoy charged on, with no more incidents. When the convoy reached the foot of the bridge, parts of Imperial Marines, commuters and their vehicles lie scattered and burning. The 'Rovers advance onto the bridge, slowly. As they edge into the flat, spaced down the whole length of the bridge are the vans that passed by earlier. Crews are unloading explosives from them and bringing the charges to others who begin attaching them to vital parts of the bridge. "Right folks, you know the routine. Every two hundred meters somebody bails and starts clearing. Anybody who resists gets dropped, anybody who wants to give up gets drugged and cuffed." Somewhere up ahead a heavy machine gun opens up, tracer arcing wildly towards the convoy. A fountain of water shoots from over the bridge rail striking the gunner and pushing him over the other side. The demo crews blow up one of their own vehicles to try to stall the slowly advancing convoy. "Allright, everybody left disembark. We're close to the middle, anything's gonna happen it'll happen here." The three remaining LandRovers shut down. The camera angle pans to the back to see the other Rovers parked alongside the demo vans. Several isolated firefights are going on at once. Crews in FryppSec uniforms swarm over the explosive charges to disarm them, tossing some to the center of the bridge deck and some over the side, seemingly indiscriminately. The dozen or so fighters climb out of their vehicles and advance up both sides of the bride deck. As the camera rounds the last van, a long shot down the bridge zooms onto a group advancing from the other side. Flashes of gunfire, explosions and combat magic light up the deck. "Ha-ha! Check it out! Those sorry sunzabitches are tangling with the spirits GoD and Griff saw. They're toast! Majikthize, get a good, long shot of 'em. I gotta frame this and send it Whistlin' outta tune." The angle draws back and behind the Whistler's Fuchi / I-Marine element, burning vehicles litter the deck. They don't appear to be drugging and cuffing those that don't resist. Near the center of the bridge, a lone troll stands. Others run around him, wiring detonators to explosives that look to be under the bridge deck. The troll swings a wicked looking machine gun towards the camera, one- handedly even, with a long belt of ammunition slapping against his legs. "Freddy, you over there, you fraggin' pansy-assed dandelion eater?" the Troll asks. Freddy flushes with anger. "Who you callin' 'pansy-assed'?" "Yeah, I thought I recognized that fairy walk," the troll bellows. Freddy takes a breath toyell something back, but he get's pulled down. "Uh, Freddy, I wouldn't provoke him," whispers another voice. You might recognize Jacamus. "If I hadta guess he's got a compromise detonator set. Probably a dead man's in his free hand." "Yeah, yeah, yeah. Where the hell's my combat mages? Scip caught up five minutes ago." On cue, GoD pokes Freddy in the ribs. "Save some trog-butt for us?" "'Bout fraggin' time. Wish Kor'd been able to catch up with us this morning. Can't blame him for wanting to see the hounds yesterday. Crap." Kor drops his invisibility spell. "You're right, Frypp, security does suck at the office. I thought you might need some help. Been watchin' the kids, they handle themselves pretty well." "How long you been waitin' 'round for me to ask that?" "Long enough." "What the hell's goin' on over there pointy-ear?!" Shigekazu emphasizes the question with a long burst from the machine gun. "Uh, nothin', Shigekazu. We're just tryin' to decide what to do about you. We gotta little problem. We can't have you goin' off and blowin' up bridges, it won't help. The fraggin' Japs'll just make our lives worse for it. We gotta convince them to get lost, by attacking them directly. This town's lost. Killing cits won't get us anywhere." The firing dies down behind the troll. The Fuchi / Imperial Marine task force approaches slowly from behind Shigekazu. "Freddy, you're too fraggin' weak. You've gotta hide behind your queer uniforms and pretend to part of the resistance. I'm gonna enjoy watchin' yo' ass die." "Hey, what's so queer about these uniforms? One of my ex-'s designed them. They give the illusion of cleavage!" Freddy turns back to his people and crouches down. A couple of the others drop down with him for a quick conference. "Ideas?" "Fry the bastard," GoD offers. Heads nod in agreement. Jacamus: "Snipe the bastard." Heads nod in agreement. "Yeah, but what about the trigger. He drops it and whatever charge is under the bridge goes off," Freddy counters. Kor leans forward, "I'll get it." "Sallright, grab it, then we snipe / fry him. I'd like to get the wires cut first, just to be sure. Jac, can you get 'em?" "Shi-i-i-t, boss, I can put a round through a fly at hundred meters and you know it," Jacamus grins. "Do it." Kor's eyes close and he reaches out, then clenches a fist. Shigekazu's head snaps down to look at his hand. He panicks, trying to get control of his hand as Jac's first shot severs his wires. From the Imperial Marines position a grenade gently arcs through the air, to land at the troll's feet. The explosion tosses him gracefully into the air, before throwing him over the rail into the bay. Faces in the FryppSec line drop in confusion, before a rage builds. Several start forward, weapons raised, with Freddy just behind. He manages to tackle Jacamus. "Hey, look at 'em! We're lucky they haven't lit us up yet. Don't get on them, too. Give me a sec. Finda decent place to set up or better yet, bring up the tank and get a bead on 'em." Freddy advances towards the Fuchi and I-Marine troopers. One comes out to meet him. "What in the hell you thinkin' Whistlin' out your ass?! We agreed to clear the bridge, first!" "They'd know something was up Freddy. You know we couldn't allow that." "Couldn't allow that! You let 'em slaughter innocents. There's a coupla hundred cars at the bottom of the bay or smoking at the end of the bridge because of you. Yer no better than the asshole Shigekazu!" "Freddy, you don't understand. It was outta my control." "Control my ass." Freddy turns his back on the Whistler. "Leave the charges, collect the wounded, we're leaving. They can have their damn bridge." +++++ END TRID DOWNLOAD Anyway, we managed to get off the bridge and back to Oakland. Well, 'cept for Kor. He wanted to stick around and try to clean up, maybe help plug up the wounded. Can't blame him I guess. I'd probably do the same thing with a new lease on life... A few cuts and bruises, the odd flesh wound. Nothing really to worry about. Traffic was a bitch on the Bay Bridge getting back to the office, though. Suppose we'll have that for a while now. Seems one of the I-Marine demo "experts" had a little boo-boo. Blew himself and a few others into atoms. Coupla charges managed to go off and chained some charges nobody had gotten to yet. Snapped a few suspension cables, blew a hole in the deck and mighta warped the main reinforcing elements of the bridge. Suckers. For all of you who couldn't make the funeral, the Porter family has given me permission to sketch it out for you... +++Begin Trideo download+++ The trideo camera comes to life in a small meeting hall, one that bears no markings showing religious affiliation. It's basically just a plain room with rows of chairs set up. The rows are filled with people who have come to pay their last respects. Up towards the front you zoom in on five humans and a dwarf sitting in the front row. They are all dressed in black, except for one of the humans and the dwarf, who are in full military dress. The dwarf's uniform is much older and more worn, which makes the guy next to him stand out even more. There is a woman next to him who is sitting solemnly. You surmise that from the look of her, she is Caine's widow. She is flanked on the other side by a man dressed in a dark suit. In fact, most everyone is in a dark suit of some sort. You flash briefly on the coffin when you hear the doors open. You zoom back (as the camera is right over the door) to see a man and a woman enter and take a seat up near the front. some of the other guests rustle a little bit as he passes, but you figure that that's a reflex action when a vampire walks by you. The man in the uniform gets up and crosses to the front ofthe podium. After a moment to compose himself, he addresses the gathering. Abel Porter: Thank you all for coming this evening. We gather here tonight to pay our respects to our honored dead. In a time when the world view is to think only of yourself, my brother was one of a rare breed. The kind of man who would think of how his actions would affect others. You here know what I speak of. I haven't yet heard the whole story, but from what I've learned, a good number of you would not be here now. I know that you all risk your lives each day, given your profession, and that the loss of a comrade, though not altogether uncommon, is something that affects everyone, including myself. I hardly knew him--the two of us grew up in separate environments. My father had never really known him either and had carried that to his grave. It wasn't until a few months ago that Caine found me, while I was searching for him. And in that short time, I was able to put my father's final fears to rest. Because both of his sons grew up to be true warriors. I'm glad that the two of them are together now. There is a slight pause as Abel turns around and gives a sharp salute. Abel: (softly) Rest in peace... brother. Abel turns back around and heads back to his seat. You could almost make out the form of tears welling up in his eyes. The man in the dark suit gets up next. Ripley: On behalf of the bereaved, I would like to thank you all as well for coming. To be honest,I hadn't expecting such a large turnout. I have, as you know, retained the usage of Lou's Bar and Grill for a wake. What Captain Porter said earlier was true--a good number of us here owe Caine our lives. And I know that he would probably want us to observe this occasion in that manner: a celebration of life. The wake will be open to anyone who wants to pay their respects in a less formal atmosphere. I hope to see you all there. With that, Ripley walks over to Trish Porter and escorts her out, followed by Caine's coffin with the pallbearers: Irish, Lou and two men whom you don't recognize. Then comes Captain Porter with Erika, then Jayna and the rest of those gathered. You cut to an outside camera to see that they have set the coffin down in a sort of reception line. Various different people walk by, saying their goodbyes or just standing there momentarily. Through the darkness you can make out the faces of Spirit, CRUSH (who admittedly isn't easy to miss), Basilisk, Dr. Jackson, his daughter, Diana and Claw. The last of the guests file away and off into the shadows. The pallbearers pick up the coffin and load it into a truck. The truck drives off and the pallbearers disperse, leaving everything as quiet as death itself. As the camera feed fades out, however, you catch a look out another person who arrives out of nowhere. +++End download+++ I found out something else interesting. I ranthe end of the feed through my equipment and enhanced the image and all that jazz. The person at the end turned out to be none other than Nicole Velli, VP of Maxim. Any and all information pursuant to these criminals will, of course, be appreciated. +++++AudioVisual Upload: Initiated A small plane appears, unfolding into a wide-angle camera view, the viewfield static fading into a precise, color-corrected image of a semifortified compound, nestled in the foothills of a large mountain. A 4-meter chain link fence surrounds the compound, with a small, neatly-stencilled sign attached near the gate. It reads, in precise black capitals: "Restricted Access Only." Immediately underneath it, in yellow, is drawn the universal symbol for biological hazards. Faint, blue alphanumerics tick off the time in the bottom-right corner of the viewfield. Time passes rapidly, then slows as night falls. When it becomes too dark to see unassisted, the characteristic flash of sodium-vapor lamps fills the black of the night and illuminates the compound, the viewfield taking on a greenish tint as night optic circuits come online. Out of nowhere, an unmarked, flat black Yellowjacket touches down just outside the compound fence, discharging four males wearing form- fitting, dark green body armor, carrying small submachine guns. One other male is wearing a long, black trenchcoat and carries a sword. A second female is wearing light security armor and a bulky backpack, carrying what seems to be a flamethrower. Two other figures, not dressed like the first six, are hidden in darkness. The squad easily slips in through the front gate, having shot the lock off, and rushes towards the compound. The viewfield fades and another comes into existence, this one inside the compound, showing a massive desk in the middle of a circular lobby, with corridors leading in three directions. A thin, pinched elvish woman in a buisness suit sits at the desk, tending to papers. As the squad enters, she looks up, gasps, and tries to trip the security systems, but a spray of hollowpoint shells from one SMG cuts her down in a grotesque shower of blood. The squad fans out, searching for the mechanisms that unlock the massive doors that restrict access to the corridors. Finally, the female wearing security armor attaches a C26 shaped charge to one door and blows it inwards, scattering the white-coated laboratory technicians behind it, tearing one of them apart with a fan of twisted metal. The squad rushes forward, firing short SMG bursts into the stunned personnel, leaving blood-red trickles across the white tile floor. The squad progresses through the corridors of the compound. Every time they reach a door, one person in form-fitting armor tosses a grenade in the cracked door: the explosion is punctuated by the shattering of glass and the hissing of sprinkler systems, not to mention the occasional screams of agony. The squad reaches one metal security door and blows it off its hinges, then steps inside of a large building, perhaps 50 meters by 40 meters. The walls are lined with computer terminals, sequencing hoods, and other scientific equipment. A technician looks up from a terminal where he was adjusting a program, screams, and dives behind a counter just as a flight of hollowpoints tear his screen apart and destroy the glassware. In the middle of the room stand six small towers, arranged in a hexagonal fashion. They look heavily padded and rein- forced, which seems rather out-of-place. The squad fans out again, searching through the laboratory, easily laying waste to everything that moves -- and quite a few things that don't. The two figures who seemed out of place fumble around one of the desks, finally coming up with a set of black cases, which they furtively shove inside their jackets. They nod to the squad, which carefully slips out of the lab. The woman in security armor flips the safety catch off her flamethrower and casts a long spinneret of flame across the room, bursting Erlenmyer flasks and reducing computer equipment to a messy pile of melted plastic. The squad sprints down the hallway, pausing only to open fire on security personnel, who now have begun to attempt to secure the area. The hollowpoint shells easily tear through their armored jackets, shattering their chests as they fall to the ground, screaming horribly. Apparently, the squad members are under orders to fire in such as a way as to maximize pain in those they hit. As the squad kicks out a window and runs to the waiting extraction Yellowjacket, the compound is rocked with an explosion. The view- finder shivers and fades... +++++AudioVisual Upload: End The families of those massacred technicians and security personnel all plead with you to bring those responsible to justice. Most would be surprised at how close some of the more primitive cultures were to obtaining magic...too bad it just wasnt available to them. Life Sparks -- Aura magic? Seems kinda Pseudo-New Age stuff. You might take a look at some of the books from the 1970's-1990's or so. Lots of information about chakras, ki, channeling. Once you get past all the self-help drippy-hoop information you will find yourself with a better understanding to work from. Magic is all in the visualization. Simple. Something else I dont usually let out but, you might wish to find archived versions of old children's games. Back in 1970 or 1975 there was a company that created a game called Dungeons and Dragons (which spawned of a host of other such games and rules). It was played by children sitting around a table with dice, pencils, and paper...and a lot of imagination. Pretty simple stuff actually but what I want to point your attention to is that they have a class called a magic-user and a set of spells and descriptions of the effects of those spells. I freely admit that my imagination isnt up to par so I use those for inspiration for spells. Not much in the way of aura magic but definitely a must for any combat-oriented mage. Ummm, I was in Ireland a couple of years back...student visa to study wild magic and a bit of the special Shamanic magics they do there. While I was there an incident occured in which a friend, and the person who gave the invite, was killed...with my weapon focus, in my dorm room. Before you turn me in, I didnt do it. Someone in the Govt. knew that I wasnt allowed to carry my dagger around with me and any use of magic would have been recorded on my visa-chip. Needless to say, I had to leave pretty quickly and chalk up another set of enemies. I gotta get back in there. They have some of the best libraries on druidic magic I have ever had the misfortune of seeing. Why you, you might ask -- Well, hell, I dont know. I thought that maybe you might know someone who could extend an invite.]<<<<< -- Kor <18:01:00 / 02-10-56> >>>>>[Due to an astounding amount of interest, I now am free to announce **Jolly Roger's SHADOWSITTING SERVICE** You going out at to shoot at some folks that might shoot back?
