Oh, Crap!
My laptop, and all my written notes
regarding upcoming tattoo appointments, were stolen recently. Aren’t people
just wonderful? This means that I don’t know what appointments I have lined up
in the future. If you have an appointment already scheduled with me, then please phone the shop, ASAP. The fate of the
universe is in your hands.
Coming Up:
Available right now!
I made up some tribal-inspired Guru Tattoo T-Shirts. They’re available in brown on black and also black on brown. You can pick one up at the shop, any time during our normal hours. Click here to see what they look like.
Past Events:
October 18th, 2007, 8:00 PM & 1:00 AM:
I’m pitted against my teacher, Leo Zulueta, in the new TLC series, Tattoo Wars. Each episode featured two tattoo artists, competing against one another on similar styled tattoos. Leo and I are on the tribal episode, which aired on the Learning Channel on Thursday, October 18th, but you can double-check your local listings here to see if there are any re-runs.
September 28, 29 & 30, 2007:
Then I went over to the Tattoo
Expo Sweden 13, in Malmoe, Sweden once again. I missed it last year,
unfortunately, but I’m back on track now.
September 17 through 21, 2007:
I did a guest spot at Kunst med Puls, in Oslo,
Norway. They’re renowned for doing pointillist and Viking-inspired tattoos.
September 1 & 2, 2007:
I worked at the Trondheim Tattoo Convention, in the fjords of Norway.
January 18 through 21, 2007:
I worked with Leo Zulueta’s Spiral Tattoo at the 12th
International Green Bay Tattoo Convention. It was a good time.
November 17, 18 & 19, 2006:
I worked with Craig
Driscoll at the Guru Tattoo booth at the Body Art Expo at
the Del Mar fairgrounds.
Tuesday and Wednesday nights, starting July, 2006:
Rockstar: Supernova was on
CBS, twice a week this Summer. I recently tattooed two
tribal lions on Tommy Lee’s chest, and he’s fond of running around with his
shirt off, so you might catch a glimpse of them on the show. There’s also a
short video interview with Tommy on the Rockstar
website where he talks about his tattoos, amongst other things. I don’t know
what the story is on re-runs.
May 19, 20 & 21, 2006:
Jade Tattoo was at the San Diego Body Art Expo at the Del Mar fairgrounds again. My work got
first and second again in the Tribal category. Thanks to everyone for showing
up.
April 7, 8 & 9, 2006:
I was supposed to work at Leo Zulueta’s booth at the Valley of the Sun
convention, in Mesa, Arizona. Unfortunately, I was wiped out with the flu, and
couldn’t tattoo for much of the weekend.
November 11, 12 & 13, 2005:
Jade Tattoo, together with our sister shop Dutch Touch from El Cajon had two
booths at the new San Diego Body Art Expo at the Del Mar fairgrounds. The organizers
have a great record with the Body Art Expo that’s been happening in Pomona for
the past few years, and this one in San Diego was pretty good, too. My work got
first and second place in the Tribal contest, and Paul from Dutch Touch got
third. Paul and Cash, also from Dutch Touch, scored Best of Show for a black
and grey backpiece which they started and finished on
Friday. Pretty amazing.
October 7, 8 & 9, 2005:
Leo
Zulueta had a booth at the London Tattoo Convention. I was there as well. It was
a fantastic convention, with top artists from all over the world. I took part
in an all tribal Art Fusion with Mo’o from Tenerife,
Jacqueline from Switzerland, Zele from Croatia,
Ernesto from Borneo and Christo. It was a blast. Stay
tuned and I’ll put up some photos from it later.
September 30, October 1 & 2, 2005:
I hit up Tattoo Expo
Sweden 11, in Malmoe again. My fourth year at this great
convention. It was held a new location and time, both of which seemed to
work out quite well.
August, 2005:
International Tattoo Art magazine covered the San Diego
convention in their “November” issue. It’s a great spread with photos and
article by Dale Rio, but the editorial
geniuses gave no tattoo artist credits for any of the article’s photos.
June 24, 25 & 26, 2005:
Leo
Zulueta was at the Second
Annual Long Beach Convention, and I was there working with him. It was a
really good convention with a surprisingly outstanding musical line up.
April 15, 16 & 17, 2005:
I was working at Leo Zulueta’s booth at the Valley of the Sun
convention, in Mesa, Arizona.
February 24, 25 & 27, 2005:

Diego Kustom Kulture Show.

for International Tattoo Art magazine.

Rory worked the 14th International Berlin Tattoo
Convention.
November 19, 20 & 21,
2004:

year, this time with Keith Nichols. Rory also worked at Snakebite piercing and
tattoo for three days after the convention.
October 22, 2004:
Holy crap! Rory actually updated the online portfolio. Since some of these aren’t even
printed out in hard copy yet, it’s like getting a sneak peak. Or something.
September 18 & 19, 2004:
Leo Zulueta and Rory
worked the first Las Vegas Tattoo Convention, at the Cox
Pavilion. A pretty good convention, except for the 9:00 AM
starting time. Most tattoo artists are non-functional at that hour.
December 29, 2003:
Leo Zulueta opened his new
shop, Spiral Tattoo, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
November 28, 29 & 30, 2003:

year.

Rory returned to the old country to work the Dublin 3rd International Tattoo Convention.
June 29, 2003:
Bob Baxter’s (editor of Skin
& Ink) new book, Tattoo Road Trip-Southern California is now available.
Rory is featured in this most recent in the Road Trip series. There was a book
release and signing party held at Vintage Tattoo
in L.A. When there’s a party at Vintage, it means BBQ, beer, free raffles and
lots of fun. Thank you to everyone who modeled for Bob.
May 24 & 25, 2003:
Rory and Keith worked the Tattoo Gallery booth at the Artistry in Ink
convention at the Anaheim Convention Center. The turn out
was smaller than the previous two years, but it was still a fun convention
May
4, 2003:
PBS will be airing a new tattoo documentary, “Skin Stories”. This
documentary was filmed primarily during the Samoan and New Zealand tattoo
conventions of 1999. It’s good stuff. Keep your eyes open for Rory’s cameos. Channel 15/Cable 11 at
10:30 PM in San Diego (check your local listings). This
documentary will also be airing at various times in various cities throughout
the summer.
October
12, 13 & 14, 2002:
Leo Zulueta and Rory worked together at the Massachusetts Tattoo
Festival in Worcester. Paul Booth and team who just did the Tattoo the
Earth shows organized this convention. TTE was the best convention I’ve ever
attended, and the Massachusetts Tattoo Festival continued the tradition.
August 9, 10 & 11, 2002:
Leo Zulueta and Rory worked together at Tattoo the Earth in Chicago.
August 2, 3 & 4, 2002:
Leo Zulueta and Rory also worked together at Tattoo the Earth in
Oakland.

A tribal dragon design of Rory’s won first place in the Tribal Tattoo contest
at the Artistry in Ink convention in Anaheim.

at the Hollywood Palladium.
June 22, 23 & 24, 2001:
"Tribal Tattooing by Rory" had a booth at San Diego's own Steel 'N'
Skin 2001 tattoo convention. Let me tell you, it was by far the most poorly
organized convention I’ve ever experienced.
Rory worked with Pedro Balugo, from Speasy Tattoo in Los Angeles, and Vincent, of Magnus Art in
San Francisco.
May 26 & 27, 2001:
Rory worked with Black Wave at the Artistry in Ink 2001 tattoo convention,
