Past
Events:
June 5, 6 & 7, 2009:
I was at the Guru Tattoo booth again, at the Ink-n-Iron tattoo convention, onboard the
Queen Mary in Long Beach. My work won first place in the Tribal contest.
June 6, 7 & 8, 2008:
Guru Tattoo had a booth at the Ink-n-Iron Tattoo & Kustom Culture Festival, on the Queen Mary, in Long Beach. I was at there in 2005, and it was good, but now it's gotten huge. Almost ridiculously so. But there was tons to see.
October 18, 2007:
Tattoo Wars
premiered tonight, on The Learning Channel. Leo and I went head to head in a
tribal tattoo contest on this episode of Tattoo Wars. It wasn't nearly as agro as it sounds. We had a great
time filming this documentary/reality show. It still shows up in re-runs once
in awhile, so keep your eyes peeled for it. Here's a link
to a couple of clips about Leo, from the episode.
August
20, 2006:
I
started working at Guru Tattoo, in Pacific Beach, San Diego.
May
19, 20 & 21, 2006:
Jade Tattoo was at the San Diego Body
Art Expo at the Del Mar fairgrounds again. My work got first and second
again in the Tribal category. Thanks to everyone for showing up.
April 7, 8 & 9, 2006:
I was supposed to work at Leo Zulueta’s booth at the Valley of the Sun convention, in Mesa,
Arizona. Unfortunately, I was wiped out with the flu, and couldn’t tattoo for
much of the weekend.
November 11, 12 & 13, 2005:
Jade Tattoo, together with our sister shop Dutch Touch from El Cajon had two
booths at the new San Diego Body
Art Expo at the Del Mar fairgrounds. The organizers have a great record
with the Body Art Expo that’s been happening in Pomona for the past few years,
and this one in San Diego was pretty good, too. My work got first and second
place in the Tribal contest, and Paul from Dutch Touch got third. Paul and
Cash, also from Dutch Touch, scored Best of Show for a black and grey backpiece which they started and finished on Friday. Pretty
amazing.
October
7, 8 & 9, 2005:
Leo Zulueta
had a booth at the London
Tattoo Convention. I was there as well. It was a fantastic convention, with
top artists from all over the world. I took part in an all tribal Art Fusion
with Mo’o from Tenerife, Jacqueline from Switzerland,
Zele from Croatia, Ernesto from Borneo and Christo. It was a blast.
September
30, October 1 & 2, 2005:
I hit up Tattoo Expo Sweden 11, in Malmoe again. My fourth year at this great convention. It
was held a new location and time of, both of which seemed to work out quite
well.
August,
2005:
International Tattoo Art
magazine covered the San Diego convention in their “November” issue. It’s a
great spread with photos and article by Dale
Rio, but the editorial geniuses gave no tattoo artist credits for any of
the article’s photos.
June
24, 25 & 26, 2005:
Leo Zulueta
was at the Second
Annual Long Beach Convention, and I was there working with him. It was a
really good convention with a surprisingly outstanding musical line up.

February 24, 25 & 27, 2005:

International Berlin Tattoo Convention.

Convention again this year, this time with Keith
Nichols. Rory also worked at Snakebite
piercing and tattoo for three days after the convention.
October 22, 2004:
Holy crap! Rory actually updated the online portfolio. Since some of
these aren’t even printed out in hard copy yet, it’s like getting a sneak peak.
Or something.
September 18 & 19, 2004:
Leo Zulueta
and Rory worked the first Las Vegas Tattoo
Convention, at the Cox Pavilion. A pretty good convention, except for the

Leo Zulueta
opened his new shop, Spiral Tattoo, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
November 28, 29 & 30, 2003:

3rd International Tattoo Convention.
June 29, 2003:
Bob Baxter’s (editor of Skin & Ink)
new book, Tattoo Road Trip-Southern California
is now available. Rory is featured in this most recent in the Road Trip series.
There was a book release and signing party held at Vintage Tattoo in L.A. When
there’s a party at Vintage, it means BBQ, beer, free raffles and lots of fun.
Thank you to everyone who modeled for Bob.
May 24 & 25, 2003:
Rory and Keith worked the Tattoo Gallery booth at the Artistry in Ink convention at the
Anaheim Convention Center. The turn out was smaller than the previous two
years, but it was still a fun convention
May 4, 2003:
PBS will be airing a new tattoo documentary, “Skin Stories”. This documentary was
filmed primarily during the Samoan and New Zealand tattoo conventions of 1999.
It’s good stuff. Keep your eyes open for Rory’s cameos. Channel 15/Cable 11 at
10:30 PM in San Diego (check your local listings). This documentary will also
be airing at various times in various cities throughout the summer.
October 12, 13 & 14, 2002:
Leo Zulueta and Rory worked together at the Massachusetts Tattoo Festival in
Worcester. Paul Booth and team who just did the Tattoo the Earth shows

the Massachusetts Tattoo Festival continued the tradition.

at the Hollywood Palladium.
June 22, 23 & 24, 2001:
"Tribal Tattooing by Rory" had a booth at San Diego's own Steel 'N'
Skin 2001 tattoo convention. Let me tell you, it was by far the most poorly
organized convention I’ve ever experienced. Rory worked with Pedro Balugo,
from Speasy Tattoo in Los Angeles, and Vincent, of
Magnus Art in San Francisco.
May 26 & 27, 2001:
Rory worked with Black Wave at the Artistry in Ink 2001 tattoo convention,
