Newsgroups: rec.arts.comics.misc From: [s--ru--y] at [cbnewsk.cb.att.com] (sylvia.a.rudy) Subject: Submission Guidelines: Fantagraphics [3 of 12] Date: Tue, 10 Aug 1993 00:14:34 GMT Company: Fantagraphics Books Address: 7563 Lake City Way NE Seattle, WA 98115 Phone: (206)524-1967 Fax: (206)524-2104 Text of Letter: _On_submitting_work_to_Fantagraphics_: Please remember that we are not responsible for unsolicited submissions, therefore we request that only photocopies (or some other cheap reproductions) be submitted. DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS! For our won convenience, please use standard letter size (8.5" x 11") paper for all copies sent. Please address all submissions to "Submission Editor" and include a self-addressd, stamped envelope (or an international reply coupon) to insure a speedy response. Please do not send portfolios or other expensive packages. Likewise it is unnecessary to send submissions by overnight mail, Federal Express, or courier. We judge your work according to its aesthetic merits and our current needs, not according to attractive packaging that costs yoou money. We primarily publish black and white comics in standard comic format (6.5" x 10.25"). Submissions should be proportioned to this format. We publish 24 to 32 page "one-shots" as well as series. We prefer to see submissions from creators who can supply us with a finished product. We don't have the time or the facilities to match up writers, pencilers, inkers, letterers, etc. Please send a script or rough synopsis of you idea, along with 3 to 5 finished pages from the story. This will give us a more accurate idea of your story- telling, drawing, inking, and page layout skills than will unrelated drawings or sketches. Please include a cover letter with your submission. We do not need to see a resume. It is quite difficult to generalize about the content of our comics. Briefly, I will say that we look for comics that are the product of a unique vision. We are not particularly interested in super heros, swords & sorcery, or other well- worn genres. We look for art that is, to a large extent, self-defined or highly stylistic.
