DC-HOMAGE FOR 1996 OCT [SPOILERS] Date: Sat, 03 Aug 96 02:16:20 GMT *********************************************************** P R E V I E W S - O - R A M A. II. DC-Homage *********************************************************** *********************************************************** Shipping October 1996 //////////////////////////////////////////////////// SPOILERS \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ Everything contained herein is IMO. Duh, 'cuz I wrote it. CLIP AND SAVE! ------------------- DC (lots of spoilers here): =========================== DC/Marvel: All Access #1 of 4 (Marz & Guice). Batman & Daredevil. Robin & Jubilee. Superboy & Spider-Man. As two universes experience a sudden outbreak of team-ups, Access rushes to put a stop to it. Batman: Gordon's Law #1 of 4 (Dixon & Janson). Jim Gordon solo! Power of Shazam! #21 (Ordway & Krause). Guest starring (er, wouldja believe...) Plastic Man. Why they're making you buy Showcase #11:Brainiac 5 meets Brainiacs 1 and 2 by Peyer & Aucoin. Plus a preview of Scare Tactics (see below) and the GA Wildcat. Hal Jordan apparently dies at some point during the Final Night crossover. The funeral is in Green Lantern #81 (Marz & Banks), which also has a reprint of the first GL story by Broome & Kane, and an "untold tale" of Hal by Marz & Kane. The Legion guest stars in Superman #118 (Jurgens & Frenz). The Super-titles are taken up with Clark's quest to regain the powers he in Final Night. This culminates in Superman #119, which ships in October but won't be solicited until next month's Previews. Presumably something shocking will happen? Legionnaires #43 (Stern/McCraw & Moy). All Try-Out Issue. Legionnaires Annual #3 (Stern/McCraw & various). XS's Excellent Adventures and Bogus Journeys. LSH #87 (Peyer/McCraw & Moder). The team turns to Deadman for help in saving Tinya from oblivion. Also LSH Archives #6 is coming. World's Finest(The Next Generation) #1of2(K.Kesel/Dixon & Grummett) Superboy meets Robin. Hijinks ensue. Night Force #1 (Wolfman & B. Anderson). As usual, Baron Winters gathers a bunch of pawns to face down That Which Man Was Not Meant To Know. I want to know how Brent Anderson's gonna draw this *and* Astro City every month! Scare Tactics #1 (Kaminski & A. Williams). Kaminski called it "The Groovie Goolies on MTV," I call it "the closest we'll ever get to a Creature Commandos revival," you'll call it "goofy!" Takion's cancelled as of #7, though he appears in New Gods #13. Preacher Special: The Story of You-Know-Who (Ennis & Case). Evi- dently you can't put the word "Arseface" on the cover of a comic book. Who knew? Superman/Wonder Woman: Whom Gods Destroy #1of4 (Claremont & D.Abell). Chris Claremont's been planning this Elseworlds for about 5 years, and now it's here. Scenario: Superman lands in 1938. In 1996, he still has his youth while Lois Lane grows ever older. Ancient gods grant her heart's desire (what's a Claremont story without someone getting their heart's desire?) to become Kal-el's perfect mate: a Wonder Woman as immortal as Superman. Batman: The Long Halloween #1 of 13 (Loeb & Sale). After 3 years of LotDK Specials, Loeb & Sale move to the miniseries. Batman, Gordon, and Dent track the serial killer "Holiday." Could it be one of Bat- man's more famous villains in disguise? Sandman Mystery Theatre #45 (Wagner/Seagle & Matt Smith). Guest stars Janos Prohaska, the original Blackhawk. Mythos: The Final Tour #1 of 3 (Reiber & Amaro/Gross). Loose tie-in to Sandman about a haunted rock star. ===The "Plus Specials"===(DC's first three "Winter Annuals")==== Azrael Plus #1 (O'Neil & Kitson). Plus...The Question. Robin Plus #1 (Waid/Augustyn & Royle). Plus...Impulse. Green Lantern Plus #1 (Marz & Kolins). Plus...The Ray. TPBs: Sovereign Seven, The Dark Knight Returns 10th Anniversary Edition [in a slipcase with posters, a bound script, sketchbook, and other goodies, plus several new pages; accompanied by the requisite poster, t-shirt, porcelain bisque, etc.] FANTAGRAPHICS: ============== Coventry #1 (B. Willingham). An all-new, ongoing "supernatural comedy thriller" by Bill Willingham. GLADSTONE: ========== Donald Duck #300. "Donald's 300th Triumph" by Heymans. Plus Rota, Milton, Jippes, Van Horn, and..."Disco Duck"? GOOD COMICS: ============ Johnson & Stroman try it one more time! Tribe #0 (Johnson & Stroman). W #1 (Aziz & Lalich). HARRIS: ======= Vampirella's 25th Anniversary, written by James Robinson, Warren Ellis, and Grant Morrison, art by Tex, Nowlan, Lago, Conner, Bair, Nebres, & Frazetta. HOMAGE: ======= Astro City v2#3 (Busiek & B. Anderson/Ross). Astra (of the FF) runs away. The cover is Astra's face on a milk carton, and it's one of the best covers Ross has ever done. To be continued (the Micronauts are coming)... -- -Thad Doria "Wsssssshhhhhhhttt. Goldust."
