The poll went to all LEOs that belong to CRPA and CPPA (CA Police Pistol Association). The questions and results are given here; for more information (or to join CRPA) contact 1-714-992-CRPA. 1. Do you support an "assault weapons" ban? Y: 5% N: 94% 2. Do you support a limitation on magazine capacity? Y: 4% N:95% 3. Do you support a law-abiding, private citizen's right to carry a concealed weapon? Y: 96% N: 2% 4. Do you believe that armed, law-abiding private citizens are a threat to you as a peace officer? Y: 3% N: 97% 5. Have recent gun laws ("assault weapons" ban, magazine limits, and increased waiting periods) reduced violent crime in your area? Y: 1% N: 95% 6. Do you believe the criminal justice system needs stream- lining and reform? Y: 98% N: 1% 9. Do you believe in the death penalty? Y: 98% N: 1% 10. Do you believe that further restrictive gun laws will decrease violent crime? Y: 1% N: 99% 11. Do you believe gun buy-back or turn-in programs take guns out of the hands of criminals? Y: 1% N: 98% 12. Do you believe that misuse of a firearm in a crime should result in stiff, mandatory sentences with no plea bargaining? Y: 95% N: 4% 13. If you belong to a police association (union), has your association ever polled its members on firearms issues? Y: 4% N: 97% Many of the respondents added additional comments explaining that the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the National Sheriff's Association, and other national police organizations DO NOT SPEAK FOR THEM. The article goes on to state that the results of this survey are in line with three other surveys conducted nationally that have been ignored by the media. Judging from some of the comments made by the participants on this newsgroup about police attitudes about citizens with guns, I'd say they seem to be running into the 1-3%; recent surveys seem to support the fact that LEOs are, by and large, supportive of CCW.
