At the last minute, my employer sent me to Covington, KY (a suburb of Cincinatti, OH) on business to a certain federal building. I spent the next four days commuting from my hotel to this installation, parking in one of the visitor's spots (after all, I *am* a visitor). On the afternoon of the fourth day, I got a call from the security guard. I was informed that my vehicle was going to be towed because I 'parked too long' in the visitor spot and that 'there were other security concerns.' The visitor parking spots are not marked with any time limit or other indication that a legitimate day-long visitor had any potential problem or needed to meet additional requirements. Well, I found out why the security guard, with an IQ floating somewhere around room temperature, had a litter of lizards. Up on the front seat, I have a cassette tape case. On this case is a sticker, given to me two years ago by Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, that others may have seen: a yellow Star of David with the words "GUN OWNER" in the middle. The political message is obvious to everyone. Everyone, that is, except the contract security guards and Covington's Finest, who were called in to run my license plates preparatory to the tow to impound. The sticker was rather appropriate, considering that's exactly how I was treated. I guess gun owners aren't permitted to have federal jobs under the New Klinton Reich. Well, the end result was my van wasn't towed, and I received a temporary parking permit to park with the regular employees of the facility. However, it left me some rather burning questions. First: Why did it take these people FOUR DAYS to notice this? If there was really a problem, the elapsed time was rather lengthy. If I were the mad bomber/postal employee they feared, four days was long enough to do anything and everything. Second: I've been working in and around federal facilities for upwards of fifteen years. Are they really so dumb as to think I would risk my job, not to mention five years at Club Fed for violating 18 USC 930? Third: It's not like this was a great big secret. The NRA and GOA stickers are clearly visible on the back window. So why did they freak at a political sticker INSIDE my van? It's the old gun owner = bad guy = shoot to kill before he corrupts our children BS I've come to loath and expect. I can only come to the conclusion that some HCI fellow traveller snuck a look and went ballistic. I've taken my van to a lot of federal facilities nationwide, and this is the first time something like this has ever happened. Of course, I expect people like S. Shaun S., and David Dahlman of Seabrook, Texas, (AKA Rack Jite) as well as a few cops to gloat over this little incident, saying that I got my just deserts for being Politically Incorrect. To them, the Bill of Rights (which is really a Bill of Limitations On Federal Power) is Politically Incorrect. --- Frank Ney WV/EMT-B VA/EMT-A N4ZHG LPWV NRA(L) GOA CCRKBA LEAA JPFO Sponsor, BATF Abuse Page http://www.access.digex.net/~croaker/batfabus.html West Virginia Coordinator, Libertarian Second Amendment Caucus "[President Bill Clinton] was only the latest in a long line of critics...and as usual, his motives were suspect, being ostensibly moral but primarily political, aimed at increasing the power of himself and his party." - Christopher Stasheff, speaking as Horace Burbage _A Company Of Stars_ (Del Rey, 1991, ISBN 0-345-36889-4)
