This letter, announced at a joint news conference in Washington sponsored by the American Civil Liberties Union, was signed by several organizations involved in defense of individual rights, including the ACLU, the National Rifle Association, the Criminal Justice Policy Foundation, the Citizens' Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, the Drug Policy Foundation, the Independence Institute, the International Association for the Oversight of Law Enforcement, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Legal Aid and Defenders Association, and the Second Amendment Foundation.
