(Was: Please, don't cry for BATF Date: 12 May 1995 13:35:33 -0700 The original contention was that the Davidians had .50 caliber MACHINEGUNS. Mr. Frank appears to be waffling on that score now, by refering only to '.50 calibers'. At any rate, I decided to take Ted up on his word and looked up the press reports on and about January 13, 1994. What I found did not support his (original) position. In fact, it contradicts it. NYT, January 15, 1994: "He showed the jury charts listing hundreds of firearms found at the site, including 61 AK-47's, 13 12-guague shotguns, 11 Belgian assault rifles, 2 .50 caliber RIFLES [emphasis added] and what he described as 'literally millions of rounds of ammunition.'" This is perfectly consistent with prior reports that the Davidians had 1 .50 cal Boys rifle and 1 Barret Light 50. Both of these are semi-automatic weapons that are rather improbable candidates for conversion to automatic. -- Don McGregor | "The problem with being avante garde is knowing [m c gredo] at [crl.com]| who's putting on who."
