TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF TF Welcome aboard to The Fringe. The purpose of this ezine is to provide GMs and players with a forum to exchange information of their adventures and campaigns in a news type format that can be shared, enjoyed, and perhaps incorporated into the campaigns of others. The Fringe has a science-fiction focus (Starwars, GURPS Space, Amazing Engine, Home Brewed systems), but is happy to accept near-sci-fi information as well(CP/CP2020/SR/Near Future VtM). Why bother with The Fringe? Well, a GM can read an ezine, and take the information in it and use it to fill blank spaces or background of her/his own campaign. If the GM sees a story about a group of adventures leaving a city, she can use it as a filler to tell her players as they enter a city, "Driving into the city, you see an odd group of humanoids leaving. All appear to be heavily armored." instead of just saying, "You drive into the city." This filler may be just a red herring or it may be an adventure lead. Either way, it enhances the adventure and adds color to otherwise lifeless scenes. The Fringe is sent out monthly (usually on the first or last day of each month) but during the summer it can be bi-monthly. It costs absolutely nothing. IT'S F R E E. There are no hidden costs other than your time, your accounts time, and whatever paper you use to print it out on. At the end of this message is the process you need to know for subscribing. The Empire is looking for the responsibles Date: 1 year before A.N.H. Article: Yesterday, a big gunfight started out at a bar located near the main spaceport at Myltus VII. The owner of the "Drunk Mynock", Jel Esfesan said "It all started around 4:00 pm (local time) when a group of strangers walked into the bar. I do not recall if there were 5 or 6 of them, but I recall seeing a Wookie, two Ewoks and a human. Then,5 minutes later, they starte hitting some of my clients, apparently because they had lost a bet. Before I had a chance to call the STs, they where shooting each other. What I can clearly recall is that one of them actually had the guts to hit Les Lemans, one of the most famous ship dealers around. Fortunately, his bodyguard,Tantor, was around to help him, and thanks to him we were able to throw the strangers out of the bar just before they made caused any more trouble." Les LeMans only received a flesh wound from the spear of one of the Ewoks, but he is right now under the care of some of the best doctors in the galaxy and they believe there won't be even a scar in a couple of days. --------------------------- Headline: WANTED For Major Property Damage Attacking and Injuring a public figure Mark Wilson, white male, 6ft tall, 168 pounds, black hair, black eyes. PROPOSED MILITARY CUTS FOR STAR POWERS 20,224/03/19 -Trancom /Goliath -Recent talks betweens mediators of the Commonwealth and the Supremacon resumed today after being stalled for a month. The talks are on proposed military cuts for both nation-states. -The proposed reductions would cut Supremacon tank forces by 1/3. In turn the Commonwealth would cease further production of it's model 16 Aries aerospace fighter. Currently Supremacon forces have 5,073,000 tanks while the Commonwealth only has 2,920,000. -Confidential sources within the Commonwealth have said that the cuts were devised more for certain individuals to gain political popularity than for military reasons. -Other proposals that were touched on was the possibility of limiting troop strength and placing a ceiling limit on the number of strategic-slip missiles each navy may possess. *** MAN ARRESTED IN CONNECTION WITH MURDER 20,224/03/01 -Port Sellius /Saint Christopher's Planet -Commonwealth colonial forces have arrested Joshua Carter of Port Sellius in connection with the 20,222/8/39 stabbing of Perry Reardon. -Carter is charged with Primary-Degree Murder and is being held at the Port Sellius Correctional Facility. *** --- ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT --- MUSIC LEGEND TO PERFORM AT THE LABVELL THEATER 20,224/04/20 -Darcell /Inces -The legendary Muse X will perform live at the Labvell theater as part of his current Imperial Fringe Tour. -Muse X, a long time favorite of the youth, with his heavy beat and twisting syi-phone rhythms, is expected to sell out his 05/24 performance on Inces. *** --- SPORTS --- Grav Hockey BLAZERS 10, HUNTERS 2 -Zan Docer, right forward for the Star Blazers, scored 5 of the 10 points in the hotly contested game against the Comet Hunters this last week. -A'rakth of the Hunters tipped in his fourth hat-trick this season with an assist from his team mate KR'nt. *** --- THE SCIENCE FRONT --- KATHERIAN SCIENTISTS MAKE BREAK-THROUGH 20,223/10/08 -Institute of Hydro Knowledge /Langre -A shattering discovery by Katherian scientists last year brought them a step closer to matter transportation. Working along the same lines as Commonwealth researches the Katherians overcame a problem that stumped the Commonwealth in the same field. -Many economic and military sources say that whoever gains the ability to transport matter instantaneously shall have a major advantage in interstellar trade and have a military tool with implications that are far-reaching. Officials say that a practical working model is decades away from being a reality. *** -William Knight [ANW T K] at [acad2.alaska.edu] ================================================================= == STORIES OF ADVENTURE == ================================================================= = The First Story = = Inspired by events and characters from Starwars (tm) = ================================================================= A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away......... STAR WARS (tm) THE DARKWOOD SERIES VOLUME ONE It is a period of civil war. With the destruction of the Death Star, a moon-size space station with enough power to destroy a planet, the Rebel Alliance has won its first major victory over the evil Galactic Empire. Nearly a year has passed since that fateful battle. The Rebels, now that the location of their main base is no longer a secret, search for a new haven to conduct all operations from. A fleet of the Empire's dreaded Star Destroyers searches the galaxy for the Rebellion's leaders, who are constantly pressed with avoiding capture. The Empire itself is reorganizing its troop and vessel deployments to make up for losses claimed with the Death Star. Each side is waiting for an opportune time to strike against the other. Life is good for the tramp freighter captains that dot the galaxy. Both the Alliance and the Empire need supplies ferried throughout their spheres of influence, and neither are willing to sacrifice starships and manpower needed elsewhere to do so. Independent operators are often called upon to fill this gap. At this time, anyone with a ship that can hold a respectable amount of cargo is able to find employment within explored space. Unfortunately, while life can be good for these people, it can also be depressingly short. Both sides in this war frequently raid the other's cargo shipments, and conflict is usually inevitable. Good weapons and skill with them are almost as important to a tramp freighter captain as a ship and the skill to pilot it. A young Rebel officer named Landon Darkwood has recently been sent to the backwater desert world of Tatooine (much to his dismay) on an assignment. What he doesn't know is that, once there, he will be attracted to the freedom of the tramp freighter captain to the extent that he becomes one himself, and in doing so, becomes one of the people that the Rebellion considers a hero......... With a grimace he tossed his blanket aside and slapped the light switch, then snapped at the intercom. "Who is it!" "It's Lieutenant Anders, Sir. I have an urgent message for you from Moff Darran." Grumbling to himself, the captain of the Crimson Death drew a robe about himself and opened the door. The light from the hallway was dim, indicating to him that the ship was on evening status, but it was more than enough for him to recognize Anders and the four stormtroopers beside him. A rush of apprehension swept over him and his skin began to tingle. He could sense something was about to happen. "Lieutenant, you said you had a message from Moff Darran." As if reading his previous thoughts, Lieutenant Anders smiled. It was a sadistic smile though, one that belonged to those who took pleasure in the sufferings of others. "Yes Captain, I do have a message. By the order of Imperial Moff Darran and the Emperor, I place you under arrest for treason." Taking a step back from the doorway, Anders gestured to the stormtroopers. "Take this rebel spy to the brig. If he resists, use force to subdue him." ** ** -Bill & Karla Knight [ANW T K] at [acad2.alaska.edu] XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX Well, that's what The Fringe is all about, bringing you gaming news in a gaming style fashion.
