Newsgroups: alt.games.whitewolf From: [r--ab--h] at [netcom.com] Subject: Re-issue of old White Wolf Press Release Date: Wed, 10 Aug 1994 16:48:00 GMT For the general public's information, below is an updated version of an old Electronic Press Release, formerly dated July 14th. This is not meant to fan any flames, only to provide people with information, as many have felt that White Wolf has never stated it's position on the matter. White Wolf continues to work with Steve Jackson Games to try and get this matter resolved. ELECTRONIC NEWS RELEASE - August 10th, 1994 Re: GURPS: Mage the Ascension This release is in response to information on the net that White Wolf exercised its right under contract to prevent Steve Jackson Games from publishing the current version of the GURPS Adaptation for our Storyteller game Mage: The Ascension. White Wolf received an outline from SJG at the start of GURPS Mage's development and later, the final, finished manuscript to review in May. The manuscript was examined in June by both Phil Brucato, our Mage Developer, and Steve Wieck, our president. It was determined by them that much of the text of the original Mage: The Ascension had been directly copied into the GURPS Adaptation manuscript. Since the GURPS adaptations of our games have been and should be *adaptations*, not *re-publications*, the decision was made to withold permission to go to press with this version of the GURPS manuscript. In short, White Wolf feels that the writers of GURPS: MtA should *adapt* the text from Mage The Ascension, not *copy* it: they must put all of the rules, setting, and other content 'in their own words.' Although sections of GURPS: Vampire and GURPS: Werewolf contain some small amount of verbatim material from the original source, the GURPS: Mage material was mostly directly copied in the draft we received. Note: The mention of or reference to any companies or products in this press release is not a challenge to the trademarks or copyrights concerned. -- Sam Chupp ([r--ab--h] at [netcom.com], [t--ea--r] at [aol.com]) White Wolf Game Studio 404-292-1819 Internet Representative / Assistant Creative Director / Playtest Coordinator Try The Storyteller's Circle, White Wolf's MUSH: draco.unm.edu 6666
