Newsgroups: rec.games.frp.announce From: [rg frp announce] at [magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu] (Coyt D Watters) Subject: Posting Guidelines: rec.games.frp.announce Date: Fri, 6 Nov 1992 16:04:31 GMT Before I get to the Guidelines for posting to rec.games.frp.announce, a look at the actual charter of this group is recommended: NAME: rec.games.frp.announce (Moderated) MODERATOR: Coyt Watters <[rg frp announce] at [magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu]> backup by Joshua Levy <[j--sh--a] at [veritas.com]> CHARTER: This group is intended for all announcements relating to roleplaying games. This may include, but is not limited to, game release announcements, pbem announcements, convention announcements, and any other events. Discussion of material in this newsgroup should be done in the appropriate roleplaying discussion group. Please direct followup lines as appropriate. Ok, simple enough, almost any kind of announcement is welcome here. Typically, your post to this group will be processed by 16:30 Eastern (US) of the next business day. When I am going to be gone for an extended time (vacation YAY!), my mailer automatically forwards all mail addressed properly (to rg-frp-announce, NOT CWATTERS) to Josh, who has volunteered to serve as my backup. Posting to the newsgroup (using pnews or similar) will also be routed correctly. Guidelines for announcements: These guidelines will expedite the processing of your post, please follow them. 1) Make sure you have returns on every 70-79 letters. While the document may look ok to you, most newsreaders HATE word processing style paragraphs. By convention (i.e. I don't have time to format the message) any posting which does not have proper EOL will be rejected. 2) The following list the minimum information I need to approve a post Play by Email (PBEM) All that is needed is: What gaming system is going to be used. How many players you need. The mailing address to join the game. If the game requires a fee, the fee must be stated. Convention Listings: Location of the CON (Country, City, State) Dates/Times Sponsoring Organization Contact address of the sponsor (email or snailmail) Product Announcements: Item Name Publisher/Company Availability (i.e. Mail order only, gaming stores everywhere, etc) Suggested (or approximate) cost Release date Press Releases: I am pretty liberal on these, just about anything which is not too (subjective to the moderator of course) much advertising or is flamebait material is usually approved. I may contact you asking for a little more info. Gamers/GMs wanted: Include where you are located and the range of distribution you desire. What system, how many gamers, etc. I'll limit the distribution using the geographic codes. Approval/Rejection/Crosspost/Redirected: If your message is approved, it is posted to the .announce group and you should see it as soon as netnews gets it to your site. If your post is rejected, I will email you an explanation for the rejection. You can either make some changes and resubmit, or send it to one of the unmoderated groups. Crossposting is, by convention, removed from messages posted to rgf.announce. Only in cases where the information is very important (i.e. I get an announcement with errata on a just released product) will I crosspost. Redirection is not done often, but if you post something like a description of weapons in ADND terms, I will sometimes redirect your message and post it to a more appropriate group. The emphasis is on *sometimes*, depends on how much time I have. That's pretty much all there is to it. -Coyt
