Geez, this business is dangerous. So we picked up the shipment and hit the road. You know, the old highways that were built by the U.S. have been very well maintained by the NAN-- so much that you can outrun most patrols. I save the 4WD for avoiding roadblocks. Anyway, we burned through Sioux lands toward Kansas City, Kansas, where some old friend of Belle's practices magic. We showed her the box. As we suspected, three of the rings were magical, and Cal's description matched that given by the others. We asked her if she could but on a fake one on some cheap ring (she's a talismonger by trade). For only 150,000, we got fake spider rings and turned the others over to Cal for destruction--she'll take them to the Cherokefor destruction, I'm told. I told her to mention Tearchild's name. Well, we took the rings on down to our contact in Ft. Worth. Gave 'em over, got paid, and drove as far as possible, to Tulsa. I wandered around for what must have been days constantly healing myself in an attempt to keep ahead of the poison till I got out, but finally I just passed out. I woke up to find this measely little Rat Shaman concentrating on trying to heal me. Just like all my trys, it fixed the damage, but didn't stop the poison. He tryed to introduce me to his little group of tunnel dwellers, but the poison quickly sapped all my strength. It took hours of this before I could finally explain to him what was wrong with me and he said that he couldn't remove the problem. However he did know a Gator Shaman who was also in the tunnels that could "purge" the poison from my system. He sent someone to get him and had the others nurse me while he kept me from dying. It must have been a few more days before the Gator Shaman showed up and cast an Anti-Toxin spell on me. Damn Gators are too lazy. Then the little bastard said he would guide me back to the surface, but that I had to pay. Naturally I asked him how much money he wanted and you'll never guess what he said. HE WANTED ME TO SLEEP WITH HIM!!!!!! I was sickened, repulsed. I'd meet him five minutes before and he expected to have sex with me just because she cast that stupid Anti-Toxin spell on me. Well it goes without saying that I told him where he could put it and that I'd just find my own way to the surface. This pissed him off and he decided that if I wasn't grateful for his saving my life that he'd take to back. First he slammed a fist into my gut and threw me down to the ground. Then he called up a Water Elemental and had it attack me. This really hacked me off, so I hit both of them with a manablast. Blasted the Water Elemental right back where it came from too. He was only slightly injured, but really angry. Tryed shock me with a Spark Spell, but I dodged it. I repsonded with a power bolt that dropped him to his knees. He got smart and stopped attacking me with magic. Instead he ripped out a big nasty knife and staggered back to his feet. I pulled me knife and began to circle him. He lunged, I parried, stepped inside his arm and tossed him across the cave. This guy had no formal combat training at all. Anybody who's been to two martial arts classes would have defended against that one. He hit pretty hard too, since before he could get back to his feet I grabbed a stick (pretty slimly stick too) and brained him. I have good news. It is dead. Between Omen, Tearchild, myself and the rather knowledgable Brandon Lowe we were able to break it loose without harming Lucky. Let me start from the beginning. As you know we went to save Fenris and his Lodge from the massive horde of Spider spirits that had attacked it. When Omen, Princess, Regent, and I arrived we found Tearchild battling three of the Spider Spirits with his Spirit Spear while Fenris and two other Wolf Shamans were doing everything they could to bolster the strength of their Medicine Lodge. It was looking pretty grim, since there were about a dozen spirits knicking away at a mana barrier that was just outside of the Lodge. Seeing the situation Omen and Princess began to start banishing some spirits while Regent covered them. I charged over to help Tearchild and the three spirits died in short order. Turning back, I found that while Omen and Princess had banished the first two spirits they attacked, they were being mobbed by almost all of the other spirits. Regent was doing his best to protect Princess, but there were too many. However even more importantly a very powerful spider spirit, which thanks to Brandow Lowe we know is a Free Spider Spirit, raised up its leg and smashed the Mana Barrier. Tearchild charged towards him, but the spirit ignored him and smashed the Medicine Lodge. Tearchild reached it and tried to spear him, but it just dodged his attack, chuckled loadly and took off at fast speed. Two spider spirits, that had been flanking the big one dissappeared out of astral space and manifested in the real world. This was very bad. The three shamans were too tired to fight them, having put all thier strength into keeping the Lodge intact. Fenris grabbed one of his fellow shamans and pulled him out of the way of the attacking Spiders. The second shaman wasn't so lucky as one of them leaped at him and caught him in its pincers. He screamed out in pain and quickly died from the combonation of exhaustion, wounds, and poison. I was already acting on what would be Fenris and the other shaman's only chance of survival. I charged directly into the melee of mages and spirits yelling to Princess to look at the Lodge. She glanced in time to see the dead shaman being tossed to the ground while a spider methodically trapped Fenris and his friend in a corner. Fenris cast a spell at it, but instead of killing the spirit he passed out. Princess ordered Regent to go help them. Regent manifested in elf form right between the spider and its prey, catching the diving pincers in his hands. He struggled with it for several seconds and finally pushed it back. Then he shifted to his unicorn form and speared it with his horn. The spider pulled back wounded but got caught by Regent's powerful hooves, and died. Regent turned around to see the other spider on the wall swatting a leg at the shaman who was using a stick to fend it off. He shifted back to elf form and launched a flame bolt at it. The flame bolt it squarly, causing quite a bit of damage. The shaman saw the opprotunity and smashed it with his stick. The spider dissappeared into ether. Back in astral space the four of us, once Tearchild joined it took only a little bit of time to kill off the spirits. We did take some minor wounds, but it was no real challenge. ]<<<<< -- Raven the Mage <10:59:50/07-02-54> >>>>>[ No real challenge? Your kidding, Raven. Moving along to the important stuff, we examined Lucky astrally and found just what Fenris had said, a spider spirit was trying to merge with her. We decided that it would be best if we got their physically, so we left Princess and Regent to guard them while Omen and myself went back to our bodies. Omen, Nightstalker and I arrived and with the help of the remaining wolf shaman, got Lucky and Fenris to a safe location. We then let the spider get a good look at Highlander, which made it rather happy. I don't understand these spiders. Needless to say, we began to do some serious research, with Tearchild commuting astrally from Cherokee land, while Omen and myself poured over our conjuring and magic theory libraries. We had a pretty good idea about how to force it off when Cerise left her second message. We had missed the first one, since I was busy and Nightstalker was guarding Highlander. Nightstalker went to pick her up and arrived a few hours later than he was supposed to with Cerise and Brandon Lowe. Brandon asked us what we had figured out and added his own advice. I don't know who he works with, but they have very good information on Spider Spirits. With is help we were able to sever the link between Lucky's aura and the spider spirit, at which point Tearchild and myself stabbed our weapon foci right through the damn thing. I went to Zale's jewelry store in a mall and saw no one there that bore an evil mark upon their soul. I assensed the jewelry and saw a mystical webbing around two rings; I asked to see them. Their power was strong, but did not affect me. The rings were tailored for women. I asked to see the manager. I assensed her. There was no mark of the web on her. I was curious. Who was I to kill? Apparently this quest was to be one without bloodshed. The Great Spirit showed me the way. I purchased the rings and took them to a secluded hill outside the city. I placed each ring upon a rock. Studying the auras, I swung my sword at them. As I struck the first ring, the magical energy spun out, weblike, but quickly dissipated, revealing a rather mundane ring. I examined the second ring. The magic on it was the same as the previous ring, but I believe the aura was false. These rings were not truly tools of the spider, but decoys to distract me from the true threat. Pretty interesting... ***** Encrypt: Prophet&Associates Prophet, for the past week I have been consulting the Vault concerning your request. The included datafile, I believe, has the information you desire. == Data include == _Katrin Angela Cullen: Elven female of indeterminable age (no recoverable records concerning date/place of birth were uncovered - flags set, data search continues). _Known Relatives: Ian Cullen, listed as employed by Aztechnology. No current records. No reported sightings since being put on unpaid leave in July of 2022. _Known Aliases: Kat Martinez, Angel Ramirez, Angel of the Blood Moon. _Known Activities: Priestess of uncertain rank in an obscure, but growing, religious cult in Aztlan known as the Worshippers of Mictlantecuhtli. Mictlantecuhtli is known as the God of Death in ancient Central-American mythos. Recent gang activity on the west coast has been linked to the cult. Goals of the cult are unclear but links have been established between them and certain subsidiaries of Aztechnology; events attributed to the cult have been reported in and around various properties belonging to Aztechnology. The Mega-Corporation has taken no action against the cult and denied any association with them or knowledge of their activities. _Known Residencies: Believed to be residing in the vicinity of San Diego. Past places of residence have included Los Angeles and San Francisco in California Free State and the Seattle Metroplex. Sightings in the past ten years have placed her in Atlanta, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Phoenix, Denver, Chicago and Kansas City. There have been reports of violent gang activity in hispanic city sectors that match the dates of Katrin's visits. None of these visits have lasted over a month to date. _Known Abilities: Tested positive, at a young age (December 2022), for magical ability. No thaumaturgical schools were attended but she has been reportedly using that ability to her favor in the Worshippers of Mictlantecuhtli. _Conclusion: Very hard individual to nail down. Possibly a powerful leader in the Worshippers of Mictlantecuhtli. With the cult possibly having a connection to Aztechnology (and thereby the Aztlan government) the Vault recommends caution in any dealings with Katrin Cullen. == End data include == How's that grab ya, boys and girls? If you are fast enough, and can move out of its field of vision to the left, (drone's perspective,) it will begin to follow. If, by the time the dron re-acquires sight of you, you are stationary, it will recognize you as a non-threat, and continue to spin contrary to any other commands. Thanx for info. Well, I got an appointment with Kynes -- so I went down to talk to him. Seems he had alot to say (for the right price) about our subject of interest. Seems that our heroe from Aztechnology was doing some very interesting research. Very Important Stuff, if you get my drift. Kynes supplied a brief summary -- in very technical language -- but what I got was that this researcher/Focus? was delving into the Greater Mysteries of the Universe -- Such as ExtraPlanar Energy Transferral Matrices, Multiple Runic Magic Manipulation, and Organic Essential Energy Magic Sources (what this stuff is, is totally beyond me. Perhaps, Milhaus or FraterNay can decrypt). Eventually, our erstwhile research- er wanted to do things Totally against company policy (human sacrifice?) - so he left to start his blood cult. The cult is purely a tool created to gather the resources (monetary and human) to help the researcher further his explorat- ions into the Unknown. Eventually, the researcher travelled to far down a cert ain path and got himself stuck (the story is very vague here). As for who would want the focus, or anything related to it . . . the answer seems to be anybody who wants lots of power (narrows the list doesn't it). Kynes had little to say on the subject of AmberLite, other than it is a clearing house and front dedicated to getting very nasty mages nasty things to play with. Apparently word on the street says that you want to stay away, or else face horrible Demons and a Curse (streetgossip most likely . . .but we can never be sure.
