Come writers and critics who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide the chance wont come again.
And dont speak too soon, for the wheels still in spin,
And theres no tellin who that its namin.
For the loser now will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin.
Come mothers and fathers, throughout the land,
And dont criticize what you cant understand.
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command,
Your old road is rapidly agin.
Please get out of the new one if you cant lend your hand,
For the times they are a-changin.
Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call:
Dont stand in the doorway, dont block up the hall.
For he that gets hurt will be he who has stalled,
Theres a battle outside and its ragin.
Itll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls,
For the times they are a-changin.
The Internet is a self-inflicted punishment on the order of Gods at the Tower of Babel. The lone Muslim in Smallville, USA; the lone American in Tai-Pei, no longer have to integrate into their local community. They can maintain their own community, construct it by picking and choosing individuals from around the globe. Rather than bringing the world together, the Internet will polarize the world as never before.
It doesnt matter because our children are smarter than we are. Our children were born in this technology. Were just skimming the surface. No matter what laws we make, our children will find ways around those laws.
Because our children will find ways around those laws. And a thirteen-year-old who discovers that breaking the law is fun will not necessarily be mature enough to understand the difference between breaking bad laws and breaking good laws.
Go back to the basics. Take responsibility for your children. Only you can teach your children to do right. Laws can only teach children to do wrong.
Politicians couldnt give a flying fuck what your children look at. Politicians want power. That certainly comes as no surprise. Politicians want power over you, and they especially want power over the next generation. Internet Decency laws are just another salvo in the generational war that has been going since the sixties.
