Role-Playing Web Sites
- Gaming Companies & Retailers
- Web sites for role-playing game manufacturers, game aid companies, and resellers.
- International Gaming
- Web sites for gaming clubs, or about gaming, outside of the United States. I know, horribly provincial of me.
- Real Life Gaming Resources
- Things on the net that were not designed for gaming, but can be used for gaming, such as museum displays of magic in antiquity, or images of urban ruins.
- Role-Playing Defense
- Information about anti-gaming organizations and people, as well as a little about the benefits of gaming.
- Role-Playing Game Additions
- Links to add-ons, modules, and supplements for a wide variety of role-playing games.
- Access Denied Game Central Network
Great place to meet gamers by location, game, or genre.
- Access Denied!
Occasional gaming author, puts some of his gaming worlds on-line. Includes a Teenagers from Outer Space setting, rock on.
- Akane’s Anime RPG Page
Some good Teenagers From Outer Space here, and hopefully soon some good Big Eyes Small Mouth stuff.
Includes spells you won’t want to remember, and other odd gaming items.
- Blaize O’Glory’s Post-Mortem Hall of Fame
The most heroic and silly character deaths only need apply. Includes epitaphs.
- The Blue Room
Includes “Risus”, a complete beer and pretzels “RPG Lite”. Lots of GURPs and Autoduel also.
- Chainmail Bikini
Shamus Young, fresh from The DM of the Rings, and Shawn Gaston take on table-top role-playing games. The strip doesn’t have the but-gusting funny out of the gate that DMotR had, but it’s definitely hitting the gamer stereotypes.
- Champions Character Write-ups
Over three hundred Hero characters, including original creations and many from established fictional worlds. You can't hardly go wrong on this site if you're playing Champions. Originally by Jack Wilson.
- Circle of Heroes
Comic book hero-oriented pages banding together for the greater good of webkind.
- DM of the Rings
Shamus Young’s epic retelling of The Lord of the Rings movie from the perspective of the player characters is absolutely hilarious, and, fortunately for you, now available in its entirety. If you’re a gamer or a Lord of the Rings fan, this is required reading.
- DND Corner
Good advice for fantasy gamers, including players and game masters.
- Errant Dreams Roleplaying Resources
There is some very nice game master advice here, especially with regards for horror (and Alice Cooper is playing “Feed My Frankenstein” on my CD player as I write this). There are a few articles on good playing as well, also interesting. Heather is also a co-author for some White Wolf and Babylon Project titles.
Includes a Vampire parody based on Care-Bears, the Brady Bunch, and Barney.
- Fantasy Library
Looks like it will be a nice site when it’s finished, but on last check most of the links weren’t ready yet. These are the folks who make the “Shadow Bindings” free RPG. Used to be the Fantasy Journal APA.
- Ferret Mortuary
Where do characters go when they die? The Character Mortuary, of course! What a great idea. I need to stick the character that accidentally blew up a mountain here.
- The Free RPG Compendium
A nice short collection of links to free role-playing games.
- Game Master’s Superpowered Web Site
A DOS-based Hero System gamemaster aid.
- Gaming Handbooks
Need to know what to do with those Illithids in your campaign? Looking for an adventure involving a shipwreck? Look into the Net Book of Plots for adventures by genre, monster, setting, and type. Plus a variety of other net.books.
- Heliograph, Inc.
Includes some of the “Transactions of the Royal Martian Geographical Society” for Space:1889, as well is stuff for “Forgotten Futures”. Specializes in “historical science fiction and scientific romances”.
- The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings
The best fantasy books I have ever read. “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit…” I found the animated movie to be marvelous as well. And the new movies by Peter Jackson are awesome! Great, great stuff. A story about temptation, on many levels. Both the powerful and the small, the wise and the foolish, countries, groups, and individuals, are subjected to temptation. How all of these entities deal with temptation is the real story of “The Lord of the Rings”.
- John H. Kim’s Role-Playing Game Page
A very comprehensive listing of all role-playing games ever available, free, published, out-of-print. Also, intelligent musings on game design and role-playing theory. A very useful site.
- Legolas RPG Archives
Celtic gaming in many worlds? Includes 36 Fantasy Fonts, historical maps. Note that the links on the left work better than the links in the middle. Also, lots of information on the gaming world of Llanowar.
- Murphy’s Rules!
No, it isn’t a comment on Irish beer. Sometimes nit-picky, often hiliarious rules bending from the rules lawyer masters at SJG.
- Open Directory - Games
An index of RPGs, MUDs, and other games. Well-designed layout.
- Realm of Mythosa
Fantasy Game World: with maps, heraldry, history, and more, the Realm of Mythosa deserves a look if you’re looking for a place to set your campaign.
- Rich Staats’ RPG Articles
Campaign info and gaming editorials. Lots of it. Really cool stuff, from various world notes to “Love in the Dungeon”.
- RPG Bloggers
A very nice clearinghouse for tabletop gaming blogs. They have a combined RSS feed so you can subscribe to all the RPG reading material you could ever want.
“The Inside Scoop on Gaming”. Great collection of articles and essays and forums.
- Santharian Dream
Meant to be a “Tolkien-style” world, with lots of detail and background. Find lots of monsters and a choice of fantasy music to listen to. This site has some very nice information, albeit a bit cluttered.
- Semper Initiativus Unum
“A blog for the old school renaissance in RPGs.” It’s a new blog, but it references Alarums & Excursions regularly, so it must be cool. Should focus on Original D&D.
- Steve Jackson Games
Includes the GURPS FAQ among a multitude of other SJG gaming info pages. Look for far more than GURPS stuff on these pages. Look too deep and you might never come back. “When you gaze into the warehouse, the warehouse gazes back.”
- A Traveler’s Guide to Minarra
Info about the fantasy world of Minarra, and the AD&D character classes contained therein. Also spells, gods, and house rules.
Buy new role-playing games, or perhaps the mystery swag.
- The World of Fargoth
Includes maps, race information, and good illustrations. Huge amount of cultural information on the races, it appears. A fantasy setting, not tied to any particular game.
- Wowee! Roleplaying Directory
Game listings and gaming classifieds. A Yahoo-like search interface. Quite nice.
An extremely in-depth description of the events leading up to Crisis—starting from the origin of the Flash! Also includes an Amalgam annotation, and GURPS: Godzilla, for role-playing in the Toho universe.
