NRA tried ‘credible’ (by which you seem to mean ‘polite’). It tried asking for investigations politely. Didn’t work. It tried teaming up with the respected ACLU, and asking more loudly. Didn’t work. So now it’s gloves-off and go for the jugular. Will it work? Probably not. But it hasn’t really hurt the NRA—one of the advantages of having your opponents essentially control the media and define you as a bunch of insane automatic-weapon toting beer-swilling moonshine-making rednecks is that your public image can’t get any worse. — russotto
