The Comics Link Morgue

Whatever happened to that great annotation, or that amazing list? A discussion over on the comics scholars list reminded me that even my dead links might be useful. These are all links that have been attached to a page on this site at some time in the past. Being a data pack rat, I never throw them out, I just mark them as “gone” so that they no longer show up.

Here, I’ve linked them directly to the Internet Archive; that doesn’t mean the archive has anything about them, but it’s a starting place if you need to find what used to be on that page. Pay attention to the response you get; often, the page itself isn’t available but parent pages will be. And the response you get when the only thing archived is the outer frame can be particularly confusing: multi-columned error messages. Finally, links on the page go off to that site, but we already know that site is dead. So if you want to follow a link you’ll need to copy the URL and do an Internet Archive search on it.

I’ve also provided the URL for reference purposes, but I haven’t linked it; quite a few of these go off to spam pages now.

Back Forward Comics by Will Ferret **
Another comic creator with annoying musical tracks on their web site! Some samples of his work, also. Some of the images are a bit large, and they’ve got a slow server... Christ, they’ve got a slow server. The only reason this entry is so large is that I’m waiting for the sample to show up. At least the music stopped when I clicked on the sample thumbnail. GirlHero!! Jar of Fools!! Land of Nod!!! Need I say more? The publisher appears to have gone belly up, or at least the web page has. One page, one graphic, no information. This is not a hit reggae tune. Be careful ordering from Black Eye on-line: an order I placed on September 7, 1997 remains unfilled, and no one answers their e-mail. As they were then going through Kagi to accept orders, I received a refund last February 5 (1998) through Kagi. As they no longer go through Kagi, you do not have this protection. | English |*/*/

Savagely Attacking the Savage Dragon ***
A hilarious send-up of Erik Larsen’s idiosyncracies. This thing is way out there, goes much too far on personal attacks against Larsen, is too much into poopie humor, and the guy’s a flaming homophobe, but still manages to hammer the weird bits that deserve hammering. “Hi. My name is Star. If you will notice, I have a pussy. I thought I was the most retarded fuckup in this comic, but I was wrong. You are. Nice fin.” It probably helped that I read it at 1:30 in the morning. | English |*/*/

Starwatcher **
Starwatcher’s “primary purpose is to assist comic-book creators in selling and negotiating the rights to their properties and services in the fields of motion pictures, television, publishing and merchandising”. Besides giving away iMacs and, and comics by Peter Kuper, Dean Haspiel, Shannon Wheeler, and more, they also archived Sasa Rakezic’s “Letters from Serbia”. No, wait... they’re just pretending to.
