D.C. voucher students show gains

Jerry Stratton, June 22, 2007

The Washington Post’s headline is Voucher Students Show Few Gains in First Year but isn’t that the same as Voucher Students Show Gains in First Year?

According to the Post, despite their headline,

  • Students who did well at math in public schools, did better at voucher schools.
  • Parents prefer the voucher program.
  • These gains came after only seven months.

Of course, changes in education aren’t going to show massive success overnight, and we can expect further improvements as the program progresses. But even with just this, as one of the commenters said on Joanne Jacobs’s blog, it costs less, there was no drop in academic performance, and parents are happier. That’s a failure?
